O sorry I never knew. I just shiny hunt growlithe in my Emerald game. Ok yes u can find growlithe. But wait, this only works if u have diamond? or can it work on ur pearl game.

This won't work if you hasn't got the national dex.
Receinging it in a trade works fine though, it just won't be added to your dex until you receive the National one then.

you can only get him if you get him traded

So in summary, the answer to your question is yes you can trade for him, but he won't appear in the Pokedex until it upgrades to the National Dex.

yes you can catch, not until you get your National Dex and with Fire Red in the GBA Slot (SLOT-2). however, if you want it beforehand, find someone to trade it from. :D
