Gyarados-rate right or don't bother

This is my current Gyarados:

Gyarados@???
Nature:Adamant
Earthquake
Dragon Dance
Taunt
Waterfall/Ice Fang
EV:252 ATK, 252 SPEED, 6 SP.DEF

My problem is, I don't know whether Ice Fang should replace Waterfall. People told me to keep Waterfall, what with STAB making it 120. Very good with DD. But with Ice Fang, I hurt those dragons who gives me so much greif. With much less power.

And what should he hold?

Thats a good Gyarados. Hum... i am wanting to train one up. I am in the same situation as you, waterfall or ice fang. ARG. I hope someone helps you soon, coz they will help me too :P
But that is the one that i am going to use. Erm.. item? I think ooo i dunno :S Sorry i am not much help.

Like I said before, with one DD waterfall's a 1HKO on all three of the popular dragons
so go with it. Other than that it looks good.

Waterfall over Ice fang since Waterfall on Dragons is the same thing as an unstabbed Ice Fang.

I always find a life orb helpful, and even leftovers if you plan on having it out a lot.

The standard, yet effective, Taunt-dos. Yeah, use Life Orb and Waterfall.

I'd rather have Stone Edge over Earthquake. It could be a good counter to your opponent's Gyarados.. xD

Yeah, I'd use waterfall, as dragons can be dealt with by another pokemon.

I think you should get rid of Taunt and replaced it with Ice Fang and also Waterfall is good but you could always go for Aqua Tail cuz it's a bit stronger.

I thought of that. But Aqua Tail, for some reason, almost always missed at the worst moments. I can't deal with that. And with Taunt, I can set up Dragon Dance. But great suggestions.

I think you should get rid of Taunt and replaced it with Ice Fang and also Waterfall is good but you could always go for Aqua Tail cuz it's a bit stronger.

Taunt Stops Skarmory coming in and walling and whirlwinding you away, once you have dragon danced up.It aslo stops other pokemon from inflicting status condidtions on you.


Aqua Tail isnt that good because 10 more power than waterfall and has 10 less accuracy than it, which isnt worth it IMO. Waterfall also gets a 30% flinch rate i think.

Gyrados isn't very good w/o taunt IMO. It stops skarm from roaring it away and getting hazed/PHazed after DDing up, so yeah. Waterfall is mostly what people, including myself, have recommended. I'd use it.
