Gym battles

Training at a friendly or opponement gymns is there a way to know how far you have gone in either levelling up or taking down a gym whilst in battle. Or is that you have to walk away or go to the end to see the progress.

Also what is the number in the middle mean, the one at the the top of the battle screen in between the two pokemons bars.

You have to walk away to see the progress. I usually count in my head how much damage I've done. For prestiging friendly gyms, I pick 6 pokemon who are half the level of the lowest gym defender and go as far as I can. Each pokemon I defeat is 1000 prestige. For attacking enemy gyms, each pokemon you beat is 1000 prestige deducted. You get another 1000 if you clear the whole stack.

The number in the middle is how much time you have left to beat the current opponent.

Thank you for that rbean. So if a friendly gym is 6000/8000 I manage to knock down two pokemon in theory that should bring prestige to 8000/8000 and level the gym up so I can enter a pokemon in, is that right?

Yes but only if all 6 of your pokemon are less than or equal to half the cp of the lowest defender.
