Probably just a filler too bring back Brock.
^.^ Back in fanfiction terms. Here are MY theories.
1. The Friendship theory - Brock could've just wanted to go back with Ash and Misty but Ivy was a block to him. He might've have gone crazy in love with her but he wanted to go back to his friends and such. So he ran away, suffered pains to go back to Kanto, and whenever he heard the word "Ivy" he would probably remember the past and cry. o.O;
2. The molestation theory: Not allowed to say here. >>;
3. The unbielvable(Sp?)theory: XD; You're on theories.

It's safe to assume that she rejected him. Why'd he take such a hard hit? Considering he stayed behind, did alot of the work and got nothing in return. :P

My take on it (And I can't believe nobody's ever thought of this one.):
Professor Ivy never really saw Brock's true nature. Once he was with her for awhile, she saw it. It only took one visit from Nurse Joy, for her to see the true Brock. A lecher... I play the possible scenario in my head all the time. Brock comes onto the Nurse, Ivy sees it, smacks Brock, and kicks him out.
(It's a wonder Miroku can get away with this in front of Sango...)

To Reyna_de_la_fire: um, no. They didn't. But the dialogue in the Japanese episodes is often different from the English version.
To everyone: I've never thought of Brock as a lecher, actually. XD; He's just not ready to settle down with one woman yet and he's too keen on falling all over someone just 'cause they look pretty. He seems quite innocent in the field of romance, actually, and I wouldn't doubt that Ivy really let him down hard after they'd perhaps even have started to date or something. Thus, Brock would have had his first really big heartbreak from her and that's why he gets so upset at the mention of her name.
