and everyone around here is very nice and friendly, so you'll fit in just right ;)

I think you'll do fine here, even if you have a disease. And also, you don't really sound rude; I actually think of you as a friendly person when I read your introductory post. As Zorogami mentioned, everyone around here is very nice and friendly, so you will fit in the community well. I'm sure of that. :) And good luck getting your PhD in medicine as well!
