I understand that Red and Blue use batteries for saves that go out, and I am not a technojunkie when it comes to repairs. I watched a youtube video of it, but I wanted you all's opinion on if I buy red or Blue off ebay, should I get one with a new battery?

If you're not tech savvy, you should probably consider buying a new one. However, consider Amazon over eBay. I find it more reliable. And make sure whoever you buy it from has great feedback, because a lot of games bought online seem to be messed up or fake.

Or you could always just download an emulator and get ROMs for Red and Blue. That's my backup for when my actual copies die.

Unless they've been through hell and high water, it's unlikely they'll need their batteries replaced in a lifetime. And even if they do, there's likely to be more damaged components, so you'd end up just buying another new copy. The emulator idea seems the best option.

I recommend you getting a new one. New ones work better than old ones. I kinda don't recommend ebay since there aren't many "new and unopened ones" out there for sale. Like Sydian said, Amazon is the best place to go. ;)

In terms of which one, I had so much fun with Red. Go get Red. :)

New ones just cost a Really, Really lot of money. And We are going to get a new computer, and dad is very skeptical of the idea of putting anything on there. I just want one of the generation 1 or 2 for my advance sp, and I have beaten most of the other games. So I am trying to figure out if, buying from an excellent seller (I found a guy with like 607 sales and 100%) I would just buy one with a new battery. I am just worried about losing all of my pokemon. So honestly, should I just buy one that works, or one with a new battery. I will look on Amazon but My dad will usually only buy from ebay. Im 16 and have a job, but he is the boss.

Ok yes it is true that if the battery dies you lose your data, however Red and Blue version's batteries will last awhile where Gold, Silver, and Crystal version's batteries will die a lot faster because the real time clock.
So I would buy Red or Blue used if I was you

I bought off ebay, red, blue, yellow, crystal, and the redblueyellow game guide and the crystal guide off ebay for $65 for $4 shipping, from an extremely highly rated seller. Mission accomplished!

I actually saw that listing a couple hours ago. I'd say that's a good price, and you bought it from a high-rated seller. Good job and good luck! :)

Sounds like a good deal! Hope you have fun enjoying the older games. Since you don't need help deciding anymore, I'll just close this.

    Locked.
