Hey everyone. I'm usually an xbox gamer playing CoD and Halo. But since my family's taking a road trip across the country, I started getting into pokemon again which I have played about 5 years ago =) I owned everything up to ruby/sapphire. I don't really know the basics of battleing other people online, but I know about the types. I made a list of pokemon based on research on the internet and I made 2 different teams based on 2 starters to choose from in HG, obviously not Meganium. Here they are:

    Typhlosion
Jolteon (Extreemly fast, pin missle, great spec. attack)
Starmie (Psychic, Thunder, Hydro Pump, ???, owned with it in red/blue)
Crobat (Toxic, Fly, great speed, not sure what else)
Heracross (Brute force, great fighing moves
Tyrannitar (Worked in g/s/c, but I really don't know what else)

I didnt want to pick any pokemon that have to be traded to evolve >.>
Now, on to the second team:

    Feraligatr
Arcanine (Amazingly fast along with other stats, but not a lot of moves to learn)
Ampharos (Thunder, other learnable moves, good stats but slow, ???)
    Dragonite (basically an amazing dragon)
    Exeggutor (Solarbeam, Psychic, strong defense)
Umbreon (I'm still thinking of a solid dark)

Please help me. This is so much thinking! Critisize my teams as much as possible!

Those are quite good. If you choose to go with Arcanine, do something like this.

    FlareBlitz
    Crunch
    Thunderfang
    Extremespeed

Unfortunately, Flareblitz can only be learned before evolution, and pretty late at that. but it is a GREAT Fire type move for Arcanine. Thunderfang and Extremespeed are learned if you give the move relearner a Heart Scale after evolving into Arcanine. Crunch is learned sometime before evolving from Growlithe.

Also, you may want to consider using another Flying type until you can get Dragonite if you go with the Feraligatr team, since you can't get Dragonite until AFTER the 8th Badge, and your Dragonair would have to be higher level than the Champion's Dragonites before it could evolve into Dragonite.

dig would be nice for arcanine. super effective against both fire and electric. surf works just fine for starmie better accuracy and with stab has plenty of power anyways. pin missile is not that much of an asset because of its real low base power so dont let that weigh too highly into your decision.just a few thoughts.

Ok thanks for the help so far. I chose Feraligatr because I could use Arcanine. Here's another team I'm thinking:

Feraligatr -----> Starmie(probably after I beat the game)
    Arcanine
Crobat -----> Dragonite(same scenario as Starmie)
    Jolteon
    Heracross
    Tyrannitar

I think you should use Heracross regardless of which starter you get. It's a great fighting type and you can get it really early in the game. By the time you get to the E4 you'll have a very strong physical attacker that hits a lot of Pokemon hard. Also, it has two very strong STAB moves, Close Combat + Megahorn.

Jolteon would also be a great Pokemon to use. Though it learns Discharge pretty late so you'd be better off teaching it Thunderbolt instead of Thunder due to its bad accuracy.

Dragonite, like you said is an amazing Dragon. I'd recommend this set: Extremespeed / Outrage / Fire Punch (use move relearner) / Dragon Dance.

Umbreon would be a pretty cool Dark type to use, it's more of a defensive Pokemon. You might wanna try something like a Toxic/Protect stall combo.

Starmie is great for it's versatility. Surf / Thunderbolt / Ice Beam / Recover is usually what I use ingame and in competitive battling.

And finally the starter, doesn't matter which in my opinion, they both are great. If you plan on taking these suggestions I gave you, Typhlosion would be the best as it gives you a Fire type. A moveset like Eruption / Focus Blast / Sunny Day / Solarbeam might work.

    Good luck!

I got a decent team so far after the third gym. My Zubat has terrible stats and I got a Dratini from the casino place. Also Heracross destroys the third gym, which was the most annoying gym that I played through in the older G/S/C versions. Where can you catch Growlithe and Larvitar?

What's your Zubat's nature? A decent nature can be more helpful. Something that increases your Atk or Speed stats is probably gonna be best.

Growlithe can be captured in the grass in the route past Sudowoodo (either capture or KO it). And Lavitar can be caught in the new Johto Safari Zone in the mountain area.

    Jolteon - Level 15
    Nature: Lonely
    hp - 49
    attk - 26
    def - 22
    sp atk - 42
    sp def - 33

    sp atk - 29
    sp def - 23
    speed - 27
    Bite
    Roar
    Ember
    Odor Sleuth
What level should I evolve Growlithe? After it learns Flare Blitz(48) or right before Arcanine learns Extreemspeed(39)? Edit: I had to catch another one with Intimidate. Is Lonely a good Nature?

    Dratini - Level 19
    Nature - Brave
    hp - 47
    atk - 37
    def - 26
    sp atk - 25
    sp def - 25
    speed - 23

    sp atk - 20

    Wing Attack
    Supersonic

I got this at level 3 too.

    Heracross - Level 21
    Nature - Serious
    hp - 67
    atk - 59 OWN
    def - 39
    sp atk - 27
    sp def - 47
    speed - 48
    Brick Break
    Aerial Ace
    Horn Attack
    Endure

    Croconaw - Level 21
    Nature - Quirky
    hp - 63
    atk - 43

    sp atk - 33
    sp def - 36
    speed - 31
    Bite
    Ice Fang
    Water Gun
    Rage

To me this team looks like they are all offense based except Croconaw. Zubat's eventually going to be replaced by Larvitar. Also I'm replacing 99% of these moves by the time I finish the E4

For Growlithe, you can evolve it after it learns Flare Blitz, and then use a Heart Scale to reteach it ExtremeSpeed.

You'll want Croconaw to be physical since it's Atk is higher than it's SAtk. I suggeust using Ice Fang / Waterfall / Crunch / Slash. You can later replace one of the moves for Superpower which it learns at like Lv60.

If you're concerned about all your Pokemon being Physical, I think you could possibly make Dratini a special attacker. Jolteon is also another special attacker.

Dratini would be, Surf / Draco Meteor / Fire Blast / Outrage or Thundebolt

For Jolteon, a Modest or Timid nature would be best. Jolteon has higher Sp.Atk and Lonely increases Atk.

An Adamant or Jolly nature works best for Growlithe, Heracross, and Feraligatr.

As far as Dragonite, it depends if you want it to be a Special, Mixed, or Phyiscal Attacker. You already have 3 Phyiscal attackers, so a second Special or a Mixed attacker would be best. in that case, either a Mild or Rash nature is best for Dragonite.

TMs to consider giving - Iron Tail, Shadow Ball.
I'm going to replace Crobat with Tyrannitar and Croconaw with Starmie. What are good natures for them?

Tyranitar would be good with an Adamant/Jolly nature.
Starmie likes to be Modest/Timid. It's up to you, Adamant/Modest raises Atk/SAtk respectively, and Jolly/Timid both raise speed.

Check out smogon for good natures and movesets. Also, if you'd like to find some beasts to add to a team I'd recommend a Gengar or a Scizor. Always done well for me.

Ok I beat the Elite Four and I'm doing decent on the Battle Tower. I'm going to try to EV train Starmie once I get 10 Calcium and 10 Carbos(I think thats the speed raising one)
