Ahhh... Let me try to help.

A Pokemon can gain up to 510 in up to 6 different stats (HP, Speed, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, and Special Defense) total. That means the EV points distributed into each of the stats will combine to a total of 510 points.

Now, a single stat can gain up to 252 usable points in it. That means that you can't maximize each stat's points, but you will have to choose how many points to put in a stat out of the 510.

Lets say you give Garchomp 252 points in the attack stat. After you do that, Garchomp's attack stat is completely maxed out in EV points.

So to clarify, the more points you put into a stat, the higher the stat will be. But you are limited to 510 total EV points for all six stats.

To avoid confusion, the actual limit on a single stat's EVs is 255. Most people only invest 252 because that's the highest amount that makes a damn- each four EVs count for a single point, but if you invest 255, you have 3 EVs that don't affect the Poke at all. So, most people put in 252, and put those extra EVs elsewhere (for instance, HP). But that's not particularly important right now.

If you need to know where to put your EVs, it's simple- just look at the Pokemon's base stats. A Pokemon's stats help determine what role it's meant to fill- just invest EVs accordingly. Or just look at clade's previous post (under the "EV Distribution" section.).

OH! I GET IT NOW! Thanks guysm I think I got enough informastion to start buiulding my team saty tuned for my new thread! you can keep posting though, no harm in that

Okay, hello, new member here, me,
So I'm trying to create a team where I have mostly Water- and Dragon-types.
I got 6 pokemons to get me started and need help on their movesets and you guys can recommended any pokemon worth switching in for. (Except for metagross he stays in no matter what.)

Since, I'm new, can someone mind explaining ot me what EVS, are and what natures do, thx, i wont be including them here, srry

Sceptile @ Life Orb
Leaf Blade (for power)
Giga Drain (to heal)
Aerial Ace (u dont have a flying move in the whole team)
Iron Tail

Nice.Physical Sweeper?

Metagross @ Quick Claw
Meteor Mash
Hammer Arm as someone told me Psychic is waste on Metgross
Earthquake
Explosion

I take it this is your physical wall.

Gyarados @
Dragon Dance
Aqua Tail
Hydro Pump
Avalanche

SWAMPERT @Leftovers
Earthquake
Surf
Ice Beam
Facade

Garchomp @ Leftovers
Sword Dance
Crunch
Earthquake
Dragon Rush

Blastoise @ ???
Ice Beam
Skull Bash
Hydro Cannon
Rain Dance

Only one problem. You've got no special sweeper or wall. Try two of these.
Alakazam @ (your choice)
Modest

EVs:252sp.atk,252spd,4hp
Psychic
Energy Ball
Shadow Ball
Fire/Ice/Thunderpunch

This is a good spec. sweeper

Here's another
Charizard@ (Your Choice)
Rash/Timid
EVs:same as Kazam
Flamethrower (accuracy over power)
Ancientpower (you will need to breed for this move)
EQ
Dragon Pulse

Or try this one (actually more of a mix. sweep)

Salamence
Rash/Timid
EVs: yet again, same as Kazam
EQ
Dragon Pulse
Shadow Claw
Flamethrower

And here's an good spec, wall

(from Dark_Azelf) Blissey@leftovers
40 HP / 252 DEF / 216 S.DEF
Calm nature
Trait : natural Cure
- Thunderwave
- Seismic Toss
- Aromatherapy
- Softboiled

Remember, just pick one of the special / mix. sweepers. I am only rating this becausei have been given good advice by others.

Kiddo, your advice still isn't very good...

Flying type moves aren't really necessary unless you really fear Heracross. And even then, Aerial Ace is too weak to really be worth a spot on Sceptile.

Psychic is a waste on Meta, but Hammer Arm still isn't very good- Fighting covers most of the same types as Ground, which he already has (EQ). Pursuit or Bullet Punch would be better options.

Alakazam @ Life Orb/ Choice Specs
Modest
EVs:252sp.atk,252spd,4hp
Psychic
Energy Ball
Focus Blast
Calm Mind/ Trick

Elemental Punches? Why would you do that? This is fourth gen, meaning those attacks are physical now- and Alakazam's Atk stat is horrible. Go with Calm Mind or Trick, depending on your item. And Focus Blast is a much better choice over Shadow Ball, as FB takes care of most Dark types that like to switch in and give Ally hell.

Here's another
Charizard@ Choice Specs
Modest /Timid
EVs:same as Kazam
Flamethrower /Overheat
Air Slash
Focus Blast
Dragon Pulse

Ancient Power only has 60 Base Power, why would you use it? And Earthquake doesn't really have a place on a Special sweeping set, especially when Charizard already has access to Focus Blast.

Salamence @ Life Orb
Rash/Mild
EVs: yet again, same as Kazam
Brick Break
Draco Meteor
Crunch/ Dragon Claw/ Roost
Flamethrower

First, why are you investing in only one Atk stat on a mixed set? You should divide your EVs between both Atks and Spd. Also, Salamence prefers Atk-boosting natures to Spd-boosting ones.

Anyway, Draco Meteor goes on ANY Salamence set that uses Special attacks- it's too powerful to pass up. Earthquake isn't much good, as its main job is to hit Steels- which Flamethrower/ Fire Blast already does well enough. Shadow Claw doesn't really help Sally much, as it's overshadowed by Crunch, which has better coverage. Dragon Claw and Roost are better, too.

Yeah, this is good. Mainly because it's the (new) standard.

Remember, rate with knowledge- know what you're doing. And don't just suggest sets because 'someone told you' it was good.

And anyone else, don't call me a hypocrite for copy-pasting Smogon's sets.

What I really need is a few other choices for tankers...open for ideas

I think a ParaFlinch Togekiss might slot nicely with your team.

Togekiss@Leftovers
Trait: Serene Grace important
Bold Nature (+Def -Atk)
EVs: 252 HP 252 Def 4 Spe
Thunder Wave
Air Slash
Aura Sphere
Roost/Wish

This thing is the meaning of annoying. Important that you use Serene Grace or this phails. Paralyze them, and STAB Air Slash and watch them flinch away or be unable to move due to Paralysis. Aura Sphere is for any Rock/Steel/Ice threats, and Roost or Wish to heal if you happen to take any damage.

This is just an idea for an addition to your team. I think it would slot nicely.

guys help me with th evs plz
