I just need one move and possibly an item for him, but any suggestions would be nice!

Dragonite Lv 57 (going to train to 100)
    Hasty Nature
    No Item
    -Dragon Dance
    -Aerial Ace
    -Earthquake
    -???

I was thinking Fire Blast or Ice Beam, but I'm not sure if that will be too beneficial with Hasty and Dragon Dance.

For the last slot, I'd say Ice Beam (For other draongs), Thunder (To hit bulky water types), or Rock Slide (To hit Ice types and for another physical move). Hasty isn't really such a good nature for DDnite, but since you've already gone through the trouble of getting Dragon Dance and all, I guess it will do. Leftovers are the best held item. ^^

Dragonite can't learn Rock Slide. =\

Thunder is the best for Bulk Waters and Skarmory. Unless you are paranoid about Zapdos, in which case, use Ice Beam.

    Dragonite @ Leftovers
    - Substitute
    - Focus Punch
    - Ice Beam
    - Thunderbolt

I reckon you should give it fire blast and then use aload of pp ups on that move and I think you should give it left overs my fav item

Since you're going for Physical Dragonite, it's probably best to include Birck Break in there to take care of those Ice-types that are hybrid water. I'd probably have seconds thoughts on Aerial Ace. Dragon Claw, I guess.

Thunder takes care of Water types while still taking on stuff like Skarmory and Aerodactyl who resist Aerial Ace. Aerial ace still gets STAB, like Dragon Claw, only, unlike Dragon Claw, it gets a boost from Dragon Dance. Eitter way, Ice Beam would be a better choice than Dragon Claw.

Hasty is not that good, dragonite is one of the slower dragons. I'd say ice beam for that last slot though, even if you don't train his special attack. It's really helpful against fliers like salamence and flygon

I would go with Thunder over Ice Beam since this is in-game and they will run into a lot more Waters than other Dragons/Zapdos.

I have actually had pretty good success with SubPunch in-game, due to the crappy AI throwing in random non-attacks.

For example, I restarted my LG cart, and was losing to the TR Grunt on Nugget Bridge on purpose to get enough Nuggets to buy IB and SB when I reached Celadon. Well, I had a Lv6 Sandshrew and I went up against its Lv15 Ekans with Bite/Leer/Poison Sting/Wrap. All Ekans has to do is Bite twice and Sandshrew goes down. Does the pathetic AI do that???? Nope. It typically took SIX turns by using PS and then Wrap and throwing in a Leer for good measure. I got so frustrated that I counted 28 straight attacks from Ekans and not a single one was Bite. I figured (roughly) that the AI used Bite about 8% of the time during all the battles that I had with it.

Okay, rant aside, I use McGar in the BF with terrific results. Sometimes the AI ruins it, but more often than not, it sticks, and then McGar sweeps.

why thunder over Ice beam? Thunder may be a bit better in game but it's so prone to missing, I like ice beam more. Maybe even boltbeam world work, but then again he's using it as a Physical sweeper first and foremost, so there's room for only one special move.

    Answered that already:

Thunder is prone to missing, but it destroys Water-types. Ice Beam doesn't. Water-types typically carry Ice Beam, which is 4x weak to Dragonite. You face more Water-types carrying Ice Beam than Dragons. That is why Thunder > Ice Beam, especially in-game.

Still, Dragonite is far to slow to compete with waters like starmie, and if he misses with thunder he's just as screwed. Since his attack is so much higher, and waters tend to have more Special defense than Defense, he'd do almost as much damage with Physical moves that didn't land super effectives. What's more is those attacks, Like EQ and the like, don't miss making them better yet. But I do see you're point, Thunder > Ice beam, as far as special moves go.

Definitely see your point, but this is still in-game. You definitely wouldn't keep Dragonite in against a sweeper like Starmie, but normal stuff it works just fine. Thunder is also necessary for bulky waters that can withstand its physical attacks.

Rarely anymore. I am typically swamped between work and home. A rare day off for me, tbh.

Oddly enough these convos betwixt you two in threads are very eerie. I'm just glad ac_drain is half your age shane, otherwise one of you might be tempted to do something irrational!

on-topic though level 100 Dragonites can still OHKO alot of things with just Thunderbolt, even in the battle frontier.
