Recently on another forum, I read some stuff a person posted about the special "Ai and Mewtwo" ("Birth of Mewtwo" in the dub), which comes right before the movie "Mewtwo vs. Mew" ("Mewtwo Strikes Back"). I'll just post what the member said, and my response.

Um... I only like this thread because it has Mewtwo in it. ^-^ I like Mewtwo! he was so cute when he was a little kid. And I really like that episode (I watched a fan-sub =p) about him growing up. It was called Ai and Mewtwo. I'm not sure if it was shown in US though...

A short summary for people who haven't seen it... =p

A group of scientists (And one of them was Dr. Fuji! :wink2: ) found Mew's DNA in South America. Then Giavanni (sp?) (The leader of Team Rocket) asked Fuji to use the DNA to remake that pokemon again so he gave Fuji a lot of money to make the lab and stuff. But the only thing that Fuji wanted from this was to gain knowledge about how to recreate life because he wanted to bring his little girl back to life. (His daughter, Ai, died in a car accident long time ago. ) So he finally did it and they showed these two tubes and one of them had Ai2 (Ai2 looked a little different from the real Ai BTW. She had brown hair insted of purple) and the other one had Mew2. (Mewtwo, he was just a cute little baby at that time ^_^)

So then they showed inside of Mew2's head. He was thinking: "Where am I? Who am I? Wha am I?"

Then Ai came inside of his mind (she had telepathic powers somehow :eh: ) so he asked: "who are you?"

She laughed and said: "what do you mean? I'm a girl, a person ^_^."

    Mewtwo: "A person? Am I a person?"

Aitwo: "You look like a pokemon, but you talk ^_^. I didn't know pokemon could talk."

Mewtwo: "pokemon? Person? What's the difference? Which one am I?"

Aitwo: "Maybe it makes the difference to you if you are a pokemon or a person, not to me ^_^. I guess if you are in this place, you are the same as all of us."

Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squrtle (sp?) appeared (Pikachu and Meowth appeared as well in the CD drama) and they all stared to play together.

Then they showed the real world again. Fuji was telling Giavoni that the cloning process was a success then later he looked at Ai in the tube and said: "Soon I wil be able to see my little girl smile again." Then they showed a flashback where his wife thought that he was crazy so she left him.

Meanwhile, Aitwo was teaching Mewtwo about different stuff like sun, wind, and even about God... But then Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squrtle faded and died. And then Ai started to fade so Mewtwo asked what was going on, but she said she didn't know but she had to go. Mewtwo stated to cry while a very sad music was playing. He said: "I'm in a tube, in water, but more water is coming out of my eyes. What is this?" She said: "Those are tears. You're crying. When I was alive my daddy used to tell me a bed time story that when pokemon are sad, and they cry, their tears are filed with light. (As seen in Pokemon the First Movie  ) Thank you for caring about me, Mewtwo, but I have to leave now."

    Mewtwo: "But why?"

Aitwo: "I don't know. But don't cry Mewtwo. You are alive. And life is wonderf... wonderful" And she died... The saddest thing about this is that she died the second time in her life because her father tried to revive her and that's what made Mewtwo mad so he kind of woke up and started to glow with energy. Scientests got scared and reset his memory. Of course Fiji was sad that his daughter died again.

But then Mewtwo grew up in that tube and became the Mewtwo that we all know and he said: "I have been in here for so long. But why? Something.... Someone told me... that life is wonderful. But why..." Then he remembered Mew, thought about stuff like what was he living for and then he finally broke out of the glass. Fuji and other scientists were happy and stuff, said hi to Mewtwo and told him that they created him. He rembered Ai, got mad at them and killed Fuji and the other scientests for trying to recreate life. Then he blew up the lab and met Giavanni. Giavanni told Mewtwo that he will show him the purpose of life and I think this is when Pokemon the First Movie started. They beat Shigeru (Gary in US) in the the gym but then they had to leave so it was a lot easier for Satoshi (Ash in US) to get the badge by beating Jessy and James who were given permission to be gym leaders while Giavanni was gone. Well you know the story after this if you watched the first movie.
Ok now you have me very interested. I would like to find out more on this. First off, when 4Kids dubbed this, there was the part where Ai tells Mewtwo about the sun, wind and moon, but never mentions God. Is that just bad dubbing? I would love to get a full translated script of this special. More so, in Japan does this go straight into the movie? And in the dub Mewtwo doesn't actually remember Ai. At the end of the special he says the thing about "someone told me life is wonderful" but that's it. He never remembers seeing Ai in the beginning of the First Movie when speaking with Fuji-tachi and they never portray him getting mad because Fuji tried to recreate life. He just gets mad because he feels the humans have rejected him and he is just an experiment. Is this all bad dubbing? Thanks.
That should explain things. If someone could help me I'd really appreciate it.

This is what I know about the whole matter:
In Japan the are some CD drama out from Pokemon. One of those CD drama contained 5 chapters which were:
    - The phantom Mew
    - The birth of Mewtwo
    - Mewtwo and Ai
    - The worlds strongest Pokemon
    - Mewtwo's counterattack
It tells several events that before the first movie. Jesse's mother, Miyamoto, was sent to the to capture Mew, but she never returned. Docter Fuji who was trying to resurect her daughter etc etc.
4Kids has decided not to dub these CD's because of they believed that CD drama's won't do so well. Instead they let the animators create a little animated short called "The Story of Mewtwo's origin". This is shown before the start of the First Movie, which starts whith a group scientists in the jungle and Mew spying on them. The short is about 2 minutes long because it was a cut version.
Later, when "Mewtwo Returns" was released on DVD (I don't know if the VHS version contains it as well) 4Kids included the entire version of "The Story of Mewtwo's origin".
"The Story of Mewtwo's origin" is basically an animated dub version of the chapter "Mewtwo and Ai" from the Japanese CD drama. The difference is that the animated dub is short down a lot.
In the Japanese CD drama Ai teaches little Mewtwo a lot from counting numbers and says that they were created by God.
In the animated dub version, Amber (the dubname of Ai) teaches Mewtwo the things about the wind, sun, stars and moon. In this version no-one says anything about "God", it seems that 4Kids wants to avoid this word at all cost.

https://www.angelfire.com/pokemon/peanutbuttermewtwo/mewtwo.html has the whole script of the CD drama.
I've uploaded the script of the animated dubbed version from my old website to https://members.home.nl/fam.man/origin/originmewtwo.htm Some better screenshots can be found on my new site https://depokesite.vze.com/specials/storymewtwo.htm

Thanks to both of you for your help. Cool, I'll need to read that full script soon (the one Unown_ posted).
Pretty sad, Japan, a mostly non-Christian nation, would mention God, but not 4Kids, who dub it for America, etc. Pathetic.
