Help with Gameshark?

(I've searched through this whole site and I'm not positive as to where I should put this thread, so if this is not the right forum, then I apologize and mods can place it anywhere they'd like.)

I just bought a Gameshark (both of my G/S games were erased one random day when I went to play them, and I subsequently lost several years of playing and amazing pokemon and amazing breeding. In my desperation and sorrow, I bought a gameshark so I could have an easier time of getting all of my pokemon back.) and when I went to use it, it said No Game Active. And it did this to all of my games, GSCRB, all of them, and on all 3 of my gameboys. (Note, I did not buy of these, I collected them over the years from people who decided pokemon weren't cool anymore so they were just going to through them all away. What is one idiot's trash is another idiot's treasure.)

So anyway, does anyone know why this could be? I've wracked my brain trying to figure it out, but I am in no way electronically adept. Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is there something wrong with my GameShark or Gameboys? Thanks so much in advance :D

I have limited experience with GameSharks, and the experiences that I've had were bad ones. Are you using the proper GameShark for the proper kind of GameBoy game?

GameBoy GameShark GameBoy games (Red and Blue), Game Boy Colour GameShark for GBC games (Yellow, Gold, Silver, Crystal), and the Advanced one for Advance games.

Actually, I don't even know if there is a GBC GameShark. I'm just going on the basis that when a friend of mine used a GameShark and erased my Yellow version he said it was the wrong GameShark. *shrugs*

Well note that any gameboy game with gameshark codes put it will more than likley freeze or crash or ruin your game.

Anyways for the games your trying hard to cheat on, well you can cheat without the gameshark...for most of the Pokemon Games have "Codes" (glitches) and they won't ruin your game...well except for the Missingo code.

Thanks so much for your help, guys. It's the regular GameShark for Gameboy, GBC, and Advance, and it doesn't work on any of my GSC or Red versions. It hasn't damaged any of the games (yet...grr) so I've stopped messing with it until I can figure out what's wrong with it. I've probably been to about 10 different F.A.Q.'s (even on the GameShark website) and I have found absolutely nothing even relevant to properly working equipment. It's rather frustrating...
