I've noticed most people on this site seem to use XP rather than the RM2K3 for their Pokemon games which lead's me to ask which would be easier to work with? You see I'm building a Pokemon game with the RM2k3 because I know just about everything there is to know about it except how to build a battle system. For XP I know absolutly nothing about it or how to build scripts or how they work. This has been plauging me for some time, I have both desinger's but I can't build a Pokemon game unless I figure out how to build a battle system for the RM2K3 or figure out how to script... So my question is...

Is the XP easier to learn than the RM2K3?

    Or...

Can someone show me a basic code to follow for a RM2K3 Pokemon Battle system?

Everyone always links scripting with RMXP. Well here is a thing, you can also perfectly use pictures and variables like in RM2K(3). You do not NEED to script, although, the scripting features can make it a lot easier to make somethings (a.k.a. One image for the message system instead of for every message a image)

It is up to you to choose. I have worked with RM95, RM2K, RM2K3 and now RMXP, and I do thinlk the last one is the best. Not only because the scripting abilities, but you can use High-Color Depth and a higher resolution etc.

I use RMXP because it can do anything that RM2K3 can do...and more!

Besides, I don't think RM2K3 is that legal unlessyou have the Japanese version...

I like rm2k3 better for pokemon games cause it's just easier for me, main reason is I rather use my own coding rather than using others which is why many people use rmxp for the main reason "It's done for you"

It's may be easier and more beautiful for mapping, but I'm pretty sure when comes do coding on Rm2k3, you have problems on what you can do.

Even if you know how to use images, etc, there comes a point where you can't do anymore with eventing.

Well, stick to RMXP, learn how to script, do your own coding and be happy forever (or until the next version comes out).

I'd say use RMXP. You don't have to be a scripting master, you can still create your battle system using events on RMXP; but if use Rm2k3, you'll be cutting off a lot of extra things you can do with RMXP. It's better to script in RMXP, but if you're not a supreme master at it, then it's best to mix both events and scripting together, you'll find it easier that way. That's what I used to do.

If you want to do scripting try sphere, I think its pretty awesome^^

Although he asked about Rm2k3 or RMXP, Sphere is somehow easier to script, yes. But the problem one faces when using Sphere is the lack for proper resources/help.

So, seeing that he would need to rip them by himself, what would take the same (or even more) time and effort, I still say RMXP is better.

    =)

Righto, rookie here (then again, I learn fast and I don't quit so bah). Read through the thread and it seems RMXP is the tool of choice? I don't wish to get into one and then discover that the other one is superior. I have no experience with it yet, but the scripting side doesn't really scare me off as I've got some scripting experience.

    Halp.

Yeah, and even if you don't have any experience with scripting, you can still do all the stuff Rm2k3 can do.

How do i make it so i can make pokemon maps in RM2k3 Because i want to make a pokemon game and i dont know how to add the pokemon images to do it
