The only way to get Mew in english would be to have gotten the ticket from the event and that only came out when Firered/Leafgreen was out.

Annnghhh wrong, there was no english ticket. The only way to get mew in english was Toys-R-Us event(AKA NOT SHINY). The only way to get a shiny mew if you had the japanese ticket to faraway island.
