how can i make sure a pokemon isn't hacked?

so i got some rather rare pokemon off this guy and wasn't really sure on how legit certain ones are, while i've acquired and "RELEASED" pokemon i've suspected of being hacked before, some seem so legit i literally just can't tell, they just seem too good to be true, how can i be sure?
