    I didn't even place...

    I caught a Scyther....first place won with a Kakuna...

    ...lol wut?

It has to do with the pokemons level and stats ect... stuff like that.

Always save before you enter the contest, and that way, you can keep trying until you've won.

I had a fulll health lv 14 beedrilland didnt even place, while a kakuna and another beedrill placed 1st and 2nd

    im calling the BS police

3 Things Contribute to the Contest:

    Rarity
    Level
    Health

I think some trainers may have strong Beedrill against your Scyther or whatever....I can't say, I'm stuck on Route 30 Training.

    Maybe a Pinsir?

Exactly this. Lets say you catch a Kakuna lv 20 and a Scyther lv 7. The Scyther is a better choice but is not as strong as the Kakuna or as high level as the Kakuna.

The rarity, level, and HP left over determines if you win.
Just today I won with a level 14 scyther at full health. It took me about 9 sport balls, but I caught it.

I caught a shiny Syther (lvl 14), and here was the placement.

    3rd - Butterfree
    2nd - Shiny Syther (Me)
    3rd - Syther

Like said, winning the Bug Catching Competition is all based on your caught Pokémon's level, rarity, and HP level. Compared to the other entries, it is possibly the reason why you might have lost against a Kakuna. :\ I say try again when you can - Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Other than that, consider yourself lucky as you got yourself a Scyther. ;)

For any further questions, I suggest using the HG/SS Help Thread though.
