I will be 13 in a week and all my friends have COD 4 and COD 5 and I really really want them but my mom is an old style parent sticking to the rules... What do I do? I don't think she has any real reason she just sees the age rating tag and her mind is made up... And she lets me watch 18+ movies all the time... HELP!

Whats the age on the games? If you will be 13 wouldnt it be okay?

He be in europe thats why the the teen rating dont work haza. It goes 3+ 7+ 12+ 16+ and 18+. All the good 12+ games are fairly old and such. BTW what console you have?

erm try and tell her its a historical game and say it will help your history because it has true events about the war

And the 18+ movies... What kind of movie?

i have xbox 360, and the kind of mature movies that i watch are stuff like texas chainsaw massacre and friday the 13th among other tv shows and films with high profanity

a 360 aha. So then your basically screwed as that thing has not so many teen friendly games.

You really should be abiding by the game rating system (and movies, while we're at it) because they exist for reason. But, if you want to try making a case...

The British Board of Film Classification (they rate video games too) lists it as 15. Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification ratings board lists it as 15+.

Given you're 13, 15 may be a little easier to swallow than 17. The ESRB needs an overhaul with a rating inbetween 13 and 17.

Family friendly game site GamerDad feels that the game is better suited to 16+, but such a rating does not exist.

Also, she can't "let you buy it". She would have to buy it for you. For M rated games, retailers are supposed to ID you to prove your age. But only EB and Game Stop really follow this. If you go to Best Buy or Wal-Mart, they probably won't blink an eye.

Tell your mom it teaches you to go against communist countries and trains you for the navy.

You abide by the law and you stop thinking that because x group of people have y, y is the best thing since sliced bread that you need OMGRIGHTNOW.

I have the same problem trying to get my hands on GTA4.
Tell her that both games are historical. If you show her that COD5 is a historical game, while COD4 is a modern game and you might need to be involved someday.

COD games are great for multiplayer, it's not just who has it and I want it.

You could always try to convince her that it's not that violent. Really, it isn't. Not a lot of blood and most of the people on XBL are whiny kids anyways.

Just to note, I heard a story about a kid named Brandon Crisp who ran away and got killed just because he got his XBox 360 and his Call of Duty game taken away. Just to say.

Don't tell me you're one of those people that blames other people's problems on "mind-damaging games"?

Just tell her the truth: that she raised you well enough to know the difference between right and wrong and you will never imitate anything you witness during your playtime.

My brother had COD4, absolutely loved it. Can't seem to remember if there was much blood. Or cursing... I just remember parts of the Campaign Mode and Online play.

Some parents have reason to be concerned. The ESRB rating is really an outline though, if you ask me. It should be up to the parent whether or not their child can handle certain M rated games. If your get into a lot of fights, have anger issues, an obsession with guns, and plans for a bomb under your bed I don't think COD4 is the game for you. But a pretty normal child can handle it.

    Revolucion makes the best point. You don't need to think up corny reasons. Try telling her you're responsible, you won't play 24/7, and you won't be brainwashed by it. I don't know why, but shooter games are just plain fun. So is Mario, but it is a different kind of fun. Just because I like to shoot virtual people in a game doesn't mean I like to shoot real people. I hate violence, but love shooters. Just start by telling her why you want it, and try not to use "All my friends have it". Fill that part in with "And it enhances my social life." >.<;

I'm just saying. Maybe there's a reason for that. I think that game may be TOO MUCh for a 13 year old. That's all.

geeze hate thoes kinds of parents. get ur friends to buy it, then take the rating sticker off a lower rated game, and stick it over COD.

I donno. I buy my games myself. so meh. Im 17 tho. Luckly Killzone 2 isnt an R18. I would be pissed.

EDIT: Lol. my parents bought me GTA:SA (R18) when i was 13. so lol.

in all the stores ive been in, they say i have to have an adult with me. and i tried the sticker trick with my mom before but even without the sticker she looked at the picture and wouldn't let me buy it. Im going to a market where the guy at the video game stall don't care about age ratings so JOY! thanks to you all for responding
