How Do I remove Pokemon cries?

Hi, I'm a new romhack creator and working on an update to Dragon Ball Z: Team Training. I was just wondering on how can I remove the pokemon cries in Pokemon FireRed? I don't really even need to have the cries there. I have tried different programs for it, but not much luck.

One possibility is changing the first byte in a cry listing in the cry table (at sound.pokemon.cry.normal in hexmaniacadvance) to a somewhat high value, like 55, which will effectively silence that cry. There are probably plenty of other ways too, but of course that's still on a cry-by-cry basis
