I have a rather large karate test coming up and to honest I'm scared to death of how bad I will get the crap kicked out of me. However even though I'm frightened I know that I will do fine. I know if I can calm my nerves I will be able to relax and have an awesome test. Anyway getting to the point, how do you deal with the nervous anticipation preceding a large event?

    =D

I know how you feel. When I first started Taijutsu I was always nervous about tests, but I quickly learned to enjoy them. Anyway, you could calm down by thinking of other things besides the test. Oh and, what I do is a train a little bit to reassure myself of my ability and I always do fine.

Taking deep breaths and just closing out everything else around you kinda helps... I do that for when I have to do public speaking, it does help at times reducing those nerves...

I usually just try to keep my mind off of the things that are making me nervous. If that doesn't work, I reassure myself that there is nothing to worry about. Although, it takes a lot to make me nervous, at least as far as tests go, so I don't find myself having to do that much.

If youre nervous about something, the best thing you can do beforehand is practice a lot. Not only does it give you more experience, but eventually your body will stop releasing the hormones that stimulate nervousness. Nervousness can also be prevented by simple (over)confidence.
I used to be scared over exams until I started to recieve my grades, which gave me a confidence boost. After doing it a lot, now I find it normal to calmly walk in, pwn them and calmly walk out again. ^^

If you really wanted you could also purchase something called a Beta Blocker. They are harmless drugs that when taken inhibit areas of your body that the hormones cause responses. Basically it prevents you from being nervous (e.g stops you feeling scared, prevents shaking, controls heart rate, reduces sweating and so on).

Yeah just try to think about something else like Pokemon and then when you get there, relax and have a good time.

    Lesse here..

If it's something I do not like doing, to get rid of some of that nervousness, I tend to read my heart out. Such as when i'm in school during project presintations, I'll sit there hiding my book from the teacher. But that kinda makes me nervous to have to hide it, waiting for him to figure me out...

When I'm nervous before something, I usually sit down and take deep breaths and moan a bit, lol. If I am nervous about something big or scary, I just think to myself that it will be ok and it will be only a matter of time before I won't be nervous anymore. I never bite my nails normally but if I am really really really nervous then I will alot. Oh yeah and I can get really shy sometimes.

I know this is pretty weird but I saw I swear to god i'm going to do it becuase I know if I swear to god and dont do it i'll go to hell so I do it out of scarceness xD

I do that same thing to make myself do cardio.

Heh. Well. When I'm nervous I seek out someone to talk to about it If I can. If not I'll just occupy my mind some other way.

Thanks for all the help guys, after my class tonight I feel better but there still is that nagging fear tapping on the shoulder. Also I have almost no finger nail left. XD

Aww... No problem. You know, once you're done with your Karate Test, it will be over. And then you'll be able to sigh. ^^

Yeah then I get to look forward to my black belt test in January.

I hear that tobacco helps calm your nerves...or if you don't want cancer you could just focus on what you have to do and go into the test with a positive confident attitude.
