2nd Gen How do you use "Enter Poke" ?

I have been using monster brain on my Silver and Gold cart for a long time now but I have never been able to figure out what the "Enter Poke" option does. Is it similar to Gamesharks code input system or what? It also says the "poke is Good" or "the poke is Bad". I dont wanna ruin my game or something by just typing in random stuff... Can anyone tell me what this means and how it works?

Ah the old monster brain, i remember this thing, i thought it was the coolest when i first got it. But i too wonder what that option does.

I believe "pokes" are codes for Monster Brain.
