[Sword & Shield] How does Multiplayer Work?

    I've tried basically everything available for multiplayer and it always searches for people and then times out and never finds anyone, for battling, trading, raids, group matches. Is MP just a local Switch to Switch thing or is this supposed to be like have internet have multiplayer? The game is BRAND new I feel like MP should be swamped, not empty. Is there something I'm missing?
     
    It's badly set up atm, sadly, and only shows a narrow subsection of players at a time. Hopefully a patch will improve it.

    In the guide here it's pointed out you can try filtering, or you can try to coordinate via our forum sections or discord for trades, battles and raids first.
