4th Gen How exactly does the trade to evolve work?

no you dont have to if you have a friend it will work
 
grab 2 DS systems or your friends DS and you trade back and forth and they will evolve or evolve with that certain item while trading. ;) Also if you wanted to get a graveler for an example go to GTS and get one and once it is traded to you it will evolve right there. ;)
