aww I was hoping b4 then so i could trade the starters off to my friend twice quick so i could get them back quick o well guess i'l do the beginning twice wasting time

To get to the GTS.. you have to get to Jubilife and to trade i think its the first gym.

Go to Oraburgh city and beat the first gym and then you can trade at the GTS. Lame.

and same to get the pal pad.

however i dont think you need the first badge to trade over union room, so if your mate was nearby you could trade that way :P (need conformation of this from someone else, because im not sure)
