I watched the show first but something told me when I got the game as a kid they wouldn't follow. I didn't really care but then as I got older I thought Misty was really cute (I still do) and wished she'd follow xD.

Yellow was my first game and I watched the anime before I got a game, but I don't remember if I expected Brock and Misty to follow me. I remember being really disappointed that when you ran into Jessie and James in Mt. Moon, they didn't have a talking Meowth with them, so after that I suppose any other deviations from the anime (including Misty not following) didn't surprise me. I don't remember if I was surprised about Brock not following, though.

I never even got to talk to Brock. I was seven and didn't pay attention to what was going on, so I never got past the gym trainer. Then I lost Yellow.
When I ordered Yellow from eBay many many years later, I did get past him, but I was actually hoping he wouldn't follow me. Pikachu was enough for me. xD

Umm, I never hoped or thought it. It was just something that I knew wasn't going to happen since I got a book for the game before the game, and I didn't like something following me, thus the reason I never finished Yellow.

Aww. To the guy who constantly battled Brock with a Pikachu. Props to you. :) I couldn't do that. I wish Brock and Misty followed me. It would have made things so much cooler. (I didn't find out about Red version until Crystal came out.) I was hoping that they would have followed in Yellow version at least, but they didn't. (Gold was the first Pokemon game I've ever played.)
