So, some of you may have noticed that for a bit comments were disabled in all articles (and currently the display at the top of the forum homepage says 0 comments). There is currently a workaround where you can click a button at the bottom of an article to go to the comments thread - it just needs updating with the forum header info, so it's mostly fixed.
You may have also noticed downtime on the forums a couple days ago too.
The two things are due to a jump in stats for Daily. One article in particular, 'A Guide to Pokemon GO', became rather popular. How much? Well...
This much. (Note July 9 is still going as of this screenshot).
Most of those views there are attributed to that sole article, and most of the views came from google searches. (Some from Facebook as well, then the likes of Twitter and Reddit, but nowhere near as much).
To give more perspective:
- The article got nearly 80,000 views in a single 24 hour period. This includes some downtime for PC! Over 50,000+ were from unique visitors.
- Before July, the all-time stats (since early February) had ~ 60,000 views, and 40,000+ unique visitors.
- July alone has nearly 150,000 views, and 110,000+ visitors already.
- The GO Guide article has 136,855 of those views as of this post.
- Peaks by hour were of 6,000+ views/hour.
So, uh... woo successful guide article? You can blame the popularity of Pokemon GO for the PC downtime. =p
This news I hope is good for future Daily articles as well! Consider it this way - at least a good percentage of those readers did not know of PC before, let alone Daily. Now they have the awareness, they may well visit sometime down the track. Maybe they'll see a link to another daily article and be more inclined to visit having seen the site before, etc. It certainly is no bad thing at the least. Meanwhile, some people reading that article clicked to see the homepage afterward, and hence would see the other recent articles displayed. So if you're interested in getting your stuff read, do pitch up an article! :V You never know, your entry may be the next big thing.
