When I played the original Pokemon games, I got more out of it compared to the others. And I think it has to do with the Pokemon, like how I'm more familiar with the original 151 Pokemon compared to the rest. Having to use less familiar Pokemon at the beginning of the games, I feel less of a connection to the monsters. It may also be because of the cartoon series, since I watched this when the original monsters were characterized and they were brought to life this way through the emotional stories.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the games. Whenever I get the chance to, I trade my original monsters across to the newer versions and use those mostly. So above all, I'd choose the original critters over the newer monsters. But there are still some that I like. Which do you guys prefer?

Honestly when looking at the 151 Pokemon you didn't have that variety of types to go for because either all lacked a certain stat or etc. Grass pokemon for example during the 151 Venusaur was the only grass type I'd use because their wasn't that many out there. Same could be said about Electric or Ghost type pokemon.

I see what your saying though, for me it was the 251 because the 2nd gen pokemon were just cool looking. Cyndaquil and it's predecessors pwnd! After the Pokemon Johto series was over I stopped watching then later on I saw some of the 3rd generation series. I really didn't like how there is now a 4th generation it really devalued what made Pokemon great. I just hope they end it here before it gets REALLY ridiculous

I'm a little inclined to agree on the point about newer versus older Pokemon. Some people might have something to say about being a nostalgic person, but as one who's played all of the Pokemon games so far (including Diamond, which has its own virtues, I admit), there's just something about the original 151 that I just don't see in the newer ones. They're like old friends. You make new ones later on down the line, but it's those old ones that you just can't help but embrace more readily.

As a whole, I'd have to say that, yes, I tend to lean towards the original 151 I know because I just know them better. There are individuals in the newer couple of generations that I like as well (such as Gardevoir and Piplup), but in general, I'm just more comfortable with the older sets. *shrug*

I'll be honest-- I loved the original 151, and still do, but I was more than excited when the second generation came out. That's my favorite, mostly because that's when I started to understand Pokemon better. Now, on the part of the third and fourth, not so ecstatic. Sapphire was the first version I got since Yellow(never beat Brock...I was seven...and didn't feel like reading) so...but even still, I wasn't too impressed. And the fourth...I thought Nintendo had gone insane when I saw most of these things.

All in all, I say second generation is the best, first has the best anime series, third has the best in game plot, and fourth has some of the best features and sprites.

It's a win for all generations in my case.

And I will agree with what Jax said about 'old friends'. -huggles Eevee-

I believe generation 1 was real great then in generation 2 and 3 there were much more pokemon that were useless and real ugly such as Zigzagoon/Linoone, Grumpig, Ariados and magcargo.
There are others I can't remeber so I do agree with you however Generation 4 had such great pokemon and many from the first and secound genrations evolved to great killers such as my favourite Electivire.

I feel a stronger connection to the 1st and 2nd Generation Pokemon than all the rest mostly because they are the one that I am most familiar with.

I just think it's getting rediculous now with the amount of Pokemon there are and I can't help but hope that they will run out of ideas for new Pokemon soon enough.

I agree - the first 151 Pokemon are the ones that I grew up with! I remember when the first film came out, and the prospect of Mew and Mewtwo was amazing.

Now, I still love pokemon, but there are so many, and I don't know how they keep the ideas rolling!

my heart is still on the original 151, but i also loved the 2nd gens cuz it has the originality there.... the newer gens are not too attractive like the older gens.......

I remember as kid playing Red and Gold trying to complete the Pokedex, not because it was something to do, but because I really loved all the pokemon and i wanted to capture each one.

I probably used every pokemon in Red for my team cause i thought that every pokemon was great. Not one bad looking or stats pokemon

While when it came to Emerald and Pearl, i found that there were many useless pokemon I never loved, never used, simply because it didnt live up to the amazing standards the first two gens had.

    *Sighs*

Oh well there is still some amazing pokemon in the newer generations XD

I sort of agree with you, but I still like other pokemon from the newer versions. I do play my red or yellow version a lot, because I like the first 151 pokemon. :]
I also like the jhoto region a lot more than hoenn or sinnoh. lol Otherwise I don't care much about ruby/pearl that much, so I still play like a poke maniac. lol ;]

As do many people who still play Pokemon, I started playing right from the first generation. I'm sure I'm not the only one who spent many hours playing through the game with our mighty Charizards that could of course kill anything. Although I only started to get into Pokemon competitively in the fourth generation, The first generation always stuck with me as the time when my love for the games began. Though of course, Johto was the best region to play through. ;D

I started in Johto.... Still my favourite region....Only Started competitevly 4th Gen but my favourite pokemon were in the 2nd Gen

2nd gen is widely regarded as the greatest set of games, and with good reason. It was bak when everything was fully original- As good as 4th gen is, GF seemed to be a bit trying for ideas in RSE (Stares at the regis ¬¬)

I started in generation one, and I still use the classics when I can fit them into my teams.
