I could not find what to fix in your script but I have some sort of idea how how to fix this. You will need to use a script event and not a person event. when you step on the script event it will make everything happen but it will hide the the old mans sprite and fade the screen. while the screen is fading it will replace the npc with the same old man but different person id and flag but with the new text. I hope this helps you in some way
