I live in the suburbs. There's a guy down the street who wanders up and down the way panhandling almost every day.

The dude's not homeless. Just panhandling and freeloading. He has a different outfit everyday and he has an iPod.

In high school we had an excursion out to visit the homeless folk downtown. Had a crazy old homeless lady come running up to us at some point and shouted "I don't want your money, I like my life. And don't give them *points at some homeless guys nearby* any. They're just going to buy drugs and booze."

Truest words ever. I liked that crazy old lady XD Would have given her money for being so truthful, but she didn't want any.

There are those who are truly homeless and downtrodden - and for them there are shelters and soup kitchens and charities and help.

And then there are those who intentionally make it their way of life.

So, don't give money to those you see on the street. Give to those authorities who will do something effective with it and help those truly in need instead.

I don't. My family donates to several charities and whatnot throughout the year (and especially around Christmastime), we participate in a fair few food drives, and all that stuff. Typically when I'm in the downtown core (only place you normally see homeless/begging people here), I'm in a bit of a rush to get from point A to point B without getting lost so even if I want to give change, it'd take time to get to it and I don't normally have much change but pennies anyway. I guess I don't want to be inconvenienced, which sounds bad but I'm just not a sympathetic person.

Omg I know exactly who you're talking about lmao. :( He's so awkward--I hate when we have to stop next to him uggggh.

Also on your other point, I remember that field trip. The person who took my group around offered to buy us cigarettes omg. 8|

If I had money to spare, I would definitely give them some change. I'm a pretty charitable person I'd say.

I feel bad for homeless ones. I've given them 20 dollar bills, and anything if I have any. Everyone is like "I have money but I am not going to spend it on those filthy bums." or "The government makes healthcare for the homeless using our money. I don't like that s***." What if they were homeless? They would only be able to survive off rotten food, the streets, and fires. They have no choice. It would be terrible. If I have ANY money that isn't absolutely necessary, I will give them some. Other people are heartless.
