it was so easy to find the kind of poke you needed fast. I'm spending 10min to find a slowpoke and i would have found one in a min before...stupid adament nature slowpoke in my bank. worst nature for that poke ever...

I miss it, too. It was one of the best features in ORAS, or in any game so far, really. It's a shame that with a Pokédex that's so involved, and with such highly-detailed maps, we didn't get anything at all similar to the DexNav, or even the Habitat List from B2W2. I hope the DexNav makes some sort of return in the future.

I remember reading somewhere that DexNav chaining didn't affect your chance of encountering a shiny. Ever since that I never really had any use for the DexNav. It was nifty, don't get me wrong. But as annoying as he can be, I think the Rotom Dex is a much better replacement.

I'm pretty sure that DexNav increased chances to ~1/200, I can vouch for that considering how many shinies I've found in ORAS randomly through DexNav while looking for specific egg moves, HA, IVs etc. I found like four shinies without a conscious effort within like two hours recently on DexNav.

So yeah, I miss DexNav a hell of a lot. I'll undoubtedly still use it a lot to catch Pokemon to transfer to SM because it was so efficient in getting good Pokemon in the wild. I know they recycle and remove features a lot, but I was still super hopeful that they would retain DexNav in some way. I guess SOS battling is their way of doing it, as annoying as it is though.

There were soooooo many advantages to dexnav that sos doesn't have.

For one thing Dexnaving involved single battles, meaning your lead pokemon wasn't taking damage. I'm trying out the sos method with Metapod only because Metapod can't attack you. And because it's more viable then pokeradar or masuda method.

Another nice thing about dexnav was knowing if a Pokémon was holding an item, I remember searching for moon stones using thief in Friend Safari, I had to thief every Clefairy and found 2 in about 120 Clefairy's. Meanwhile I dexnaved for Vulpix and almost every other one was holding a Charcoal which sells for 5,000.

Before Metapod struggles itself to death it tends to call for help 6 times and is successful 4 times.
I'm not sure how adrenaline orbs work but I'm pretty sure you can't leave and come back after using one like you can with dexnaving.

I guess one of the downsides to dexnaving was having to buy lots of repels, though there were quite a few places where you could dexnav without repels. I'd say sos is better then pokeradar, masuda, soft resetting, random encounters and cavenaving and waternaving.

But it's definitely not better then Friend Safari, chain fishing, hordes or dexnaving in grass.

Fortunately for me the only Pokémon I really want to sos for are Caterpie, Metapod and Gastly. As these were all difficult to get in gen 6, I can still friend safari and dexnav for the rest since I'm trying to complete a gen 1-3 shiny living dex, not a gen 1-7 shiny living dex.

Yeah I definitely miss this too, given the many different Pokemon found in Alola it would have been very useful to have this feature. In ORAS, I knew where a lot of Pokemon were found, as many retained their locations from RS, but in SM, I really don't know what to expect, I suppose that's a good thing but I don't really want to constantly check every patch of grass like four times.

As far as I'm aware, this was just a collective delusion. The reason DexNav chaining increases your chance of finding shiny Pokemon is because you find MORE OF THAT SPECIES of Pokemon. You have a better chance of finding a shiny Ralts when you filter out every species of Pokemon but Ralts.

And of course I could totally be wrong, this was just the last bit of info I remember gathering on the subject. I've had shinies on chains of less than 10 and I've also seen no shinies on chains of 500+ using the DexNav.

Actually Pokémon that pop up and shake in the grass or in the water or in the dirt have a higher chance of being shiny then just random encounters.

Having a chain doesn't increase shiny odds, nor does search level, though having a chain is good because it makes the next Pokémon appear more often. From what I've seen the main ways to break a chain are running from a Pokémon, running into a wild Pokemon or leaving the area, saving and turning the game off doesn't break the chain however.

I would usually break a chain purposely if the Pokémon got close to level 50 because I didn't want to deal with high level shinies and because I don't really care about HA or egg moves.

I believe with shiny charm your odds with dexnav for a shiny are 1/200 without it's closer to 1/512.
But you have the same odds on the first encounter as the 1,000 encounter with dexnav. Without dexnav you have a 1/4096 chance on the first encounter and every encounter after without shiny charm, with is closer to 1,000.

My fastest shiny using dexnav was a Heracross, I had a search level of 7, that day I had just jumped down the stones to search for Rhyhorn and Heracross popped up in the front edge grass. It was shiny. I tend to encounter other Pokémon if I still need them, found a shiny Slakoth and Pikachu while looking for other Pokémon. I encounter them and knock them out so that when I search for the Pokémon I'm hunting it has a better chance of popping up.

Meanwhile my longest was Vulpix at 599. I don't have shiny charm and I've found 20 shinies using Dexnav since Aug 27th of this year, but either way 1 encounter or 599 encounters are better then 4,096.

Also your statement about Pokémon appearing more causing you to have better shiny odds means you should have shiny Whismur's coming out the yin-yang in Rusturf Tunnel since it's 100% encounter rate.
