Believe it or not, Internet Explorer is still the browser of my choice after all these years, despite installing and using Firefox and Chrome. Maybe I'm that different, and maybe people won't be agreeing with me, but...
Firefox and Chrome hate me.
Firefox for some reason starts up slowly, even when you consider the situation of not having to load any add-ons. I can usually expect to see nothing for around 10 seconds or so while I wait for the slow browser to launch. I guess OS integration goes a long way, huh?
Chrome? All the benchmarks saying processing speed is really speedy... I think I can say that it might be important in some way, but its graphical performance is ridiculously horrible compared to IE and FF. If you need a proof of what I'm saying, right now, switch your forum style to Route 167 and not have your style to be reduced... or visit any CSS3-heavy/fixed-background page. There, single-digit frame rates! Other browsers can maintain high-speed rendering. :P I guess Chrome, while being CPU-optimized as much as possible when it comes to scripting, is completely outclassed when it comes to actual graphics - and that's probably what's most important to end users.
I think it might have to do with something about you not really having to have add-ons in Internet Explorer these days. Like, take Adblock (Plus) for example. It's available for Firefox and Chrome as an add-on, and it does provide lists for use in ad-blocking. Internet Explorer? There's no real add-on that does that for free without restrictions, but that's no matter, since Tracking Protection does what it says... and also blocks most ads as a nice side-effect of being able to use the same lists... and ads usually track anyway.
I guess the Internet Explorer stigma hasn't gone away in most people's eyes, and I can see the reason. That really old browser known as Internet Explorer 6 is the cause of it. Still, what's past is past. If you're a Windows Vista or 7 user, and haven't upgraded to Internet Explorer 9 yet, why not? It's probably worth a try anyway - and with Microsoft initiating fully automatic updates sooner or later, you might not need to do it, cause sooner or later, well...
P.S. I have, like, 32 tabs open, and it took up only 675 MB of memory, all vBulletin forums.
