entei i could see being either one. i agree it might be a lion but be also has dog characteristics. but im sure suicune is part of the dog family, probably a wolf

I've always called them the Legendary Dogs, due to them being referred to as dogs in an official Nintendo guide I had for Gold and Silver back in the day.

Imo they look more like dogs than cats also.

raikou obviously sabertooth tiger, or siberian tiger (with saber teeth) its body, shape& movements are all the same, and even more so thanx to black&whites new continuous moving sprites (dogs dont move like that, only cats do)

entei is a lion, maybe a liger, it has the mane, the teeth,& the facial structure, not to mention the lion has always been associated with the color red, and the paws are shaped like a lions, plus the roar is a lions.

next is the fact they were called "dogs" that was america not japan, japan called them beasts, that sorts itself out, america is always screwing things up.

last point is the Suicune, shes (looks female to me) obviously a wolf, jackal, or other canine species similar to big cats in build, but with the canine snout, makin her slender& well built for speed ^_^

thats my debate on the subject :P

daga (however) the head is the defining quality between canine& feline
if you really study their biology, their no so different, just alternate paths of evolution.

either way their the same, i say they should be called Beasts, simply cuz Dogs& Cats are similar species, and were most likely born from the same genetic line.

cats were born more compact,& slimly for stealth, tactics, & speed.

while dogs were built in a more buff and intimidating design, making them more of a power species, one built entirely for the hunt.
