Right now I went with a classic line up of Gen 1 poke'mon.

    Venusaur/Charizard/Blastoise/Gengar/Dragonite/Kangaskhan.

This is just the lineup to get me through the game.

I want to keep a Charizard, a Kengaskhan, and a Gengar in the lineup as of now. If I use a mega evolution, it will be for Kengaskhan.

Right now I'm thinking of swapping out Blastoise for a Magikarp and get a Gyrados.
The problem with this idea is it would be a poke'mon even MORE susceptible to electric attacks. Need to check if I can still teach him EarthQuake before I make any decisions.

Venusaur may need swapping out, Grass really doesn't counter all that much. Any opinions?

Still not sure if I should keep Dragonite, whats the take on that Poke'mon?

Also Lapras has always perked my interests, but AFAIK Gyrados is the better Poke'

I might swap him out with a Ralts and go for Gardevoir. I could use a good Fairy/Psychic type Poke'mon in my line up. Not crazy about MewTwo since I can't train him from level 1, and my Gengar hardcounters Fighting type Poke'mon once I teach him Psychic.

Need to breed some perfect IV's, don't know how long that'll take. If anyone has some Poke'mon with perfect IV's let me know.

BTW I could use some friends that avidly play the game. Anyone wanna add me into their friendslist?

Charizard is only good in its Mega form as well; its regular form is outclassed otherwise. The charm that comes with using Mega Charizard is that your opponent will never know what form you're using until you actually Mega Evolve. In Battle Spot, having 2 Megas is okay, since you can choose the Mega you want to use depending on the team you're up against; picking both Pokemon for the battle would be pointless.

    Ideal sets for each:

    Kangaskhan:
    -Fake Out/Power-Up Punch
    -Return
    -Sucker Punch
    -Earthquake/Crunch
    Nature: Jolly
    EVs: 4 HP/252 Atk/252 Spe
    Item: Kangaskhanite
    Ability: Scrappy

    Charizard:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Flare Blitz/Fire Punch
    -Dragon Claw/Outrage
    -Earthquake/Roost
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
    Item: Charizardite X
    Ability: Blaze

    or
    -Dragon Dance
    -Dragon Claw
    -Fire Punch/Earthquake
    -Roost
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 144 HP/244 Atk/120 Spe
    Item: Charizardite X
    Ability: Blaze

    or
    -Fire Punch/Earthquake
    -Dragon Claw
    -Will-o-Wisp
    -Roost
    Nature: Careful
    EVs: 248 HP/148 SDef/112 Spe
    Item: Charizardite X
    Ability: Blaze

    or
    -Fire Blast
    -Solar Beam
    -Focus Blast
    -Dragon Pulse/Roost
    Nature: Timid/Modest
    EVs: 4 Def/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Charizardite Y

If you opted for Charizard Y, Chlorophyll Venusaur is a good teammate:
    -Giga Drain/Solar Beam/Leaf Storm
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Hidden Power (Fire)/Earthquake
    -Sleep Powder
    Nature: Modest/Rash
    EVs: 24 HP/252 SAtk/232 Spe
    Item: Life Orb
    Ability: Chlorophyll

Gengar's best sets are below. It can either act as a sweeper, with Destiny Bond to take out opponents that would KO it, or as a utility Substitute attacker:
    -Shadow Ball
    -Sludge Bomb
    -Focus Blast/Thunderbolt
    -Destiny Bond
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 4 HP/252 SAtk/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Focus Sash

    or
    -Substitute
    -Shadow Ball
    -Will-o-Wisp
    -Taunt/Sludge Bomb/Focus Blast/Disable
    Nature: Timid
    EVs: 28 HP/148 SAtk/80 SDef/252 Spe
    Item: Black Sludge

Don't even think about using Lapras. It's outclassed by Gyarados and other Water Pokemon because of its bad defensive typing and average attacking stats. Gyarados is much better:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Waterfall
    -Earthquake
    -Stone Edge/Ice Fang/Bounce
    Nature: Adamant/Jolly
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
    Item: Life Orb/Lum Berry

    or
    -Rest
    -Sleep Talk
    -Waterfall
    -Dragon Tail/Roar/Dragon Dance
    Nature: Impish
    EVs: 248 HP/252 Def/8 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Intimidate

Dragonite's main catch is Multiscale, which halves the amount of damage it takes from full health:
    -Dragon Dance
    -Outrage/Dragon Claw
    -Earthquake
    -Extreme Speed
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 Atk/24 Def/232 Spe
    Item: Lum Berry/Weakness Policy
    Ability: Multiscale

    or
    -Outrage
    -Earthquake
    -Extreme Speed
    -Fire Punch/Dragon Claw
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 252 Atk/4 Def/252 Spe
    Item: Choice Band
    Ability: Multiscale

    or
    -Dragon Claw
    -Earthquake
    -Extreme Speed
    -Roost
    Nature: Adamant
    EVs: 216 HP/64 Atk/228 SDef
    Item: Leftovers
    Ability: Multiscale
