people bet on sports, horse racing, football, boxing, wrestling, pretty much ANY sport there is people place wagers... even the silliest things, people place bets on....

if Pokemon existed, and like in the TV, games, and whatever, people have Pokemon battles in arenas, would people place wagers on Pokemon if they existed?

To some people, gambling is what, barely, keeps them alive. So, yes, I think there would still be gamblers. Besides, there are already gamblers in the Pokemon anime aren't there?

There would be soooooooooo much illegal stuff going on if pokemon existed.

Of course it will. There will be betting house and people who do pokemon battle solely for money. But, they put their wager on the trainer not the pokemon.

Definitely, take the following as an example:

Trainer A vs Trainer B in an Pokemon Battle. Trainer A has an exceptionally fine form in his past 6 battles, trashing every single trainer. Trainer B is a newbie in the business of Pokemon Battling. The odds of Trainer A winning is 3:1 and for Trainer B is 3024:1 (lol random numbers) Trainer A is clearly an hot favorite to win this battle. Many people bet on him to win the better. However, Trainer B won the battle and those who betted on Trainer A became bankrupt, letting the organisers of the battle taking in all the betting money.

Long story short, in the world of Pokemon, betting on battles can be used as a medium of gambling.

Well, people can gamble over anything so technically, yes, they would. Would it be common? Depends on if pokemon battling were illegal or not. If it were like dog fights then you can be sure a lot of people would find it a horrible idea.

People gamble without pokemon, so I don't see how the world of gambling will change after Pokemon "existed." Unless you're suggesting that Pokemon are innately against gambling, which doesn't even make sense in the first place IMO.

I don't think that gambling has much to do with there being or not being Pokemon in the world, it's more about people. Because people would have the same basic natures in both worlds, it wouldn't make sense for gambling to somehow be gone...especially in a world where you can legally battle creatures against each other.

Re dog fighting: I don't think Pokemon battling can be likened to dog fighting at all, if anything it's like two humans fighting. Most Pokemon are accepted to have a higher intelligence than animals, as they're easily trained to do different moves and can understand their trainers, so they are near human intelligence. They aren't forced into fighting by pain like dogs are, they want to fight as much as the trainers do. Now, as far as the trainers that do force their Pokemon to fight through pain, that's a whole other story.

Of course it is. But I think the Pokemon League will branded it as illegal stuff since the League doing tehir best to avoid misuse of pokemon.
Although the League will brand it as illegal, I bet some people just ignore them and do it anyway. Like Team Rocket maybe. They own the casino at Celadon so why would not they own a bet house as well? It would make them more "criminal" as a criminal group.

Precisely miss Toujours. Gambling on pokemon battle are more or less, similar to gamble on Boxing or fighting. While its true that the pokemon do the battle, but trainer skills are the one that most likely will determine the victor. Hence, I say that people will put their bet on the trainer not pokemon.

Trainer that fight in bet house solely for money? I bet there is people like that.
I agree with that because it will make alot illegal stuff with pokemon is well.
Well, the Pokemon League are not for nothing you know.

Gambling's existed long before Pokemon, both legal and illegal. And if people bet on things like prize fights and sports games, why not Pokemon battles, which are essentially sports competitions when you get down to it. It could add an extra dimension to sanctioned Pokemon tournaments, Leaue-approved or not, and it could spawn illegal underground battles that might be more brutal than your traditional battles, morally wrong as they may be.

You seem to say that as though there aren't already many illegal practices concerning regular animals. There might actually be less issues with Pokemon, since they can generally defend themselves with greater assertion.

If there was a Pokemon game on/in the casino, they might play it, but I don't think it has to do with anything like if pokemon were real.

I don't understand this question. Pokemon and gambling are two very separate concepts and there is absolutely no causal link that would say "because this one exists, this one now won't"

Of course! People will always gamble at games where there are others competing against each other. Pokémon would be no different.
