In Sinnoh, if you could alter one of the cities/towns (or more, whatever's your preference) or expand upon its in-game design, how would you do so?
For example, my favorite city of Canalave is said to have an exotic feel to it, yet by the way it's designed I'm really only feeling "port town" when I go there. That makes sense, of course, since Canalave was once a thriving port city...
On the other hand, it feels to me like it lacks the exotic flare it's supposed to have. So, I've been thinking, "What if Canalave looked more like Venice, Italy?" Both are on the water, both have to do with ports, Venice is very rich with history, it probably comes of as exotic to those of us who've never seen it in person... so what elements would I take up to use?
E.g.,
•More canals splitting the city up into parts
•A few more houses with a more foreign appearance to them
•Statues of Pokemon (not copying Eterna; they don't have to be the Gods of the myths)
•A market place, akin to Slateport? An actual carnival would be neat, but maybe that's just me takin' too much from Venice for inspiration.
•Keep the library; it's one of the good points of the city already
Just things like that. Of course, I know that maybe all of this couldn't be implimented into a game and it's far to late to alter DPPt, but these are just the muses of a bored mind who's set to... think. Anyway, I'd be tempted to make Canalave look more like Venice. They wouldn't have to be identical, but just grab pieces from Venice and use it as inspiration for Canalave.
So, is there anyone else out there who muses on these things and speculates how a city could look a little different/have it's current design expanded?
