And I wanna know which starter will be the best, and how to make a great balenced team from the beginning.

I've always chose Charmander, but he isn't strong for the first two gyms.

Squirtle is nice, he would be my second choice. But then Lapras is a pretty cool water type too, so I don't want two water types on my team.

Bulbasaur is...well, I don't really care for the grass types, but, there aren't a lot of grass types in the game. Just Oddish...

Well if you like to go through challenging stuff then start out with charmander, but otherwise your other best bet is squirtle. You don't have to get a Lapras, but you could get starmie later if you want to, because I prefer starmie over lapras. ;)

    choose bulbasaur.
    good against first 2 gyms.
get pidgey and train before viridian forest.
after you get past cerulean (catch geodude in mt moon b4 hand)
or if u dont want a geodude, catch a diglett in vermillion.
once you get to celadon catch a growlithe in the grass to the east.

so then youll have ( keep on team for sure)
    1. bulbasaur
    2. growlithe
    3. geodude or diglett

    idk jsut ideas.
so yeah choose a bulbasaur. then eventually get a growlithe. than u can still have lapras =)
idk. lol thats all ive got right now.
i have a ryhorn, i dont rememeber were i got it though.

I was thinking it over, and I think I might have to go with a Balbasaur. And I'm for sure going to get a Growlithe then.

Thanks for helping me out guys!

    yep no problem =D

get a gastly to. make sure it knows hypnosis (that may be difficult)
then u can teach it dream eater to.

another good water type (even if u want lapras) would be poliwrath.
    fighting and water type.
    it's a beast!
PM me if u want anymore pointers

Get Charmander he is the toughfesst at the begging but worth trainnig because it can become and unstoable force and plus u get Flying attributes

No way, hothead. He should go with bulbasaur. Since FR has growlithes, then bulabsaur is best, and Charmander is second.

i played leaf green the past weekend and started with charmander, but picked up a mankey west of virdian city to beat brock (altough charmander gets metal claw quite early) and a pikachu in viridian forrest to kick misty.
the starters are also ment to be like that. its almost like setting your difficulty. bulbasaur is easy. squirtle is normal. charmander is hard. but just pick your favourite. you will always win the game ;)

Well since I chose Bulbasaur, what's a good nature for it? I saved it before I chose it to see what the natures were like for it, and I keep on getting my butt kicked by Gary!

You do make some good points, but here's another one - Squirtle and Charmander are compatible with the two most useful HM's in the game, Surf and Fly. But not Bulbasaur, only Cut, Rock Smash and Strength for him, which imo should only be taught to an HM slave..

But, seeing as you're planning on a Lapras (<3) and you don't wanna go with Charmander again, Bulbasuar's the only one left. =/

I really hate teaching my first Pokemon HM moves>_< or any other strong Pokemon.

I usually have a weak HM slave in my party. I'm just going with Bulbasaur because he's a very strong grass type, and there aren't much grass types in FR.

    Go with Bulbasaur.

To me he is kinda good.Sure the speed can be better but other than that, it's very good.

Although I also restarted mine and started with a Charmander before but do what I did and if you have another FireRed or Leafgreen trade it to that and have every starter or if you have a brother or sister who can hold it for a while. That works too.

I picked Bulbasaur and im finding him to be much better than i thought my team is:
    Ivysaur
    Pidgeotto
    Pikachu
    Growlithe

and im most likey going to catch Gastly/Haunter once i get the Sliph Scope and for my Water Type either Krabby/Kingler or Poliwag/Poliwhirl/Poliwrath, so yeah Bulbasaur is a good choice.

Let me congratulate you on choosing Bulbasaur, rare case nowadays. The gyms will be ridiculously easy first time around. You have a type advantage over Brock and Misty, and Lt Surge can't hit you too hard.

Growlith is nice, but don't evolve him too early on. He learns Flamethrower before Arcanine does.

I'd choose Umbreon or Jolteon for your Eeveelution (if you choose to use Eevee)

Gyarados is a fun little guy to use. I'd use him since he covers Dragon/Ice/Water for your team.

Machamp or Hitmonlee work nicely for your fighting spot. Gengar or Alakazam (preferably the former) fit nicely into any team.

    Just some suggestions.

Don't evolve your pikachu until it's like Lv. 40 or so, because it learns Thunderbolt and Slam, and Raichu never learns anything.
