Pokemon should be in the top 50! At least it is better than some other animes.

Um no, if it DP doesn't deserve top 50 then Indigo league doesn't either. Anyway, it says 4Kids on there, not PUSA.

In marketability, it wins hands down. But we're talking about plot, character development, animation, and writing staff. It doesn't even come close to anime like Eureka 7, Cowboy Bebop, or FMA.

I'm amazed at the ranking Neon Genesis Evangelion got. o.o

Anyhow, I don't get why you think that Pokemon is a better anime than say Princess Mononoke or Trigun. I mean, Pokemon is just a little kid's anime, and this list covers all anime out there. The other ones have better characters, a better storyline, better animation, etc.

Before claiming that Pokemon should be ranked that high, perhaps you should actually compare it to what else is on the list. Sure, you might think that Pokemon is the greatest anime ever, but it's so simple and lacking compared to what else is on that list.

Makes me wonder about X Movie.

But Pokemon just has the advertising power.

Pokemon SPECIAL deserves top 50. Whoever made that list was on crack. End.

YES. If only Special was an anime... but it should be.

If you kind of ignore the last two episodes, Eva is actually a good show. But the creator couldn't meet his deadlines, so they just crapped out that whole "Congratulations" ending. It's really a waste, but at least Rebuild of Evangelion has a chance of redeeming the series.

EDIT: Scrapped Princess, Kino no Tabi, Abenobashi, and Yakitate Japan all made the list. There is a god. :D

EDIT 2: Then again, so did Naruto and Ikkitousen...

because its based around kids, and no one reviews things like that, and more people should.

To be honest, I have to agree with this person.

I've seen many other awesome anime like FMA, Scrapped Princess, etc., you see that Pokemon could be a lot better.

Of course...there're a few ratings that confused me. I'm surprised Elfen Lied made #4.

    Exactly.
Sure the entire Pokemon franchise is still really big (which is awesome..), but in the way of things like plotline(s), and character development (like Chris said), Pokemon doesn't really stand a chance. It doesn't really dig too much into the background of it's characters, nor does it have some sort of totally awesome storyline like some other anime series have.
Also, art-wise, sure the characters look neat, but its a highly simple art-style, and they keep it fairly low budget.
Granted, movements can't be seen in screencaps, but the detail in the art sure can.
(However, the Pokemon movies tend to do alright, movement wise.) Also, Pokemon uses alot of re-animation.

I mean, come on.. It fails in comparison to things like Death Note, for example:

    Death Note art.

    Pokemon art.

Also, the episode plots, and series events are often repeated, this is due to the series being so long, of course... but still,
if more work was put into it (and they wanted to spend more cash..) something could be done.

Reguardless, I'm not trying to put down/bash Pokemon at all, just pointing out that I'm not surprised at where it
stands in comparison with other series. Still, it would be cool if it were more of a competition, that way it could've gotten
on the top 50, at least.

Whatever.. It's still #1 in my book.

Yeah, but when reveiwing anime most people think of things like plot and charecter development. Pokemon didn't really have either until Diamond and Pearl.

no one is looking at that (at least i'm not), ok, so what Jorah said is right, kinda. Have you ever seen a good television show that did bad in the end? okemon was the best anime for 5 years (in terms of kids sake).

But, just to throw it out there, what character development is there in Pokemon? I mean, the characters still pretty much act the same. Ash from Kanto and Ash from Sinnoh act the same, still think the same, still is the same exact person. Maybe a bit more mature, but that's only because he knows more about Pokemon training.

I might be missing something in D/P, which I don't watch. But really, I haven't seen character development in Pokemon. (I will say that there is a possibility for James of Team Rocket, but it's nothing major that the writers will use to add some needed depth to the show.)

I agree with Shiraishi though. If Special was turned into an anime, and that was used instead of the episodic anime we have now, then it would be better. The manga had character development, a good storyline, and other things.

And airconditioning, I was surprised that Evangelion ranked at sixteen. I knew the last two episodes were a letdown, but Evangelion is one of the best ranked anime. It just surprised me to see it so low.

Pokemon, IMO only made the list because it's been running for so long... otherwise, I can think of at least a half dozen anime NOT on the list that would clearly overshadow it (Piano: The Melody of a Young Girl's Heart, anyone?)

But I was surprised to see Full Moon pwning at the #2 spot! Makes me even more excited to get my hands on the whole series (I currently have the first two DVDs)

Oh wow, Gundam SEED in the top 10 and not Turn-A.

But then, I just noticed how much difference there is in the amount of reviews some anime get, so... it can't be perfect.

i thought the character development was excellent. the plot not so good.
They NEVER gave any of the charecters ANY depth what so ever. I mean they did start in Diamond and Pearl, because they tried to make people like Dawn and Paul actual people, not random happy go lucky all the time.
