I never realized the uno/dos/tres thing either. I also always thought misdreavus was gen three. God I'm stupid.
OMG! I just now realized that probo in probopass means nose.
Guess I get my genious moment.

I've been into Pokemon for about 10 or more years. I didn't notice it until you pointed it out. It seems so obvious now, though. Articuno, Zapidos, Moltres.

And, isn't that the order they appear in the game, too?
 
I thought a lot of Pokemon from Gen 3 were RSE originals, but they were created during GSC. This includes Pokemon like Slugma, Skarmory, Chinchou, etc.

As for the whole name thing, most Pokemon have names that combine a few words together, and sometimes they aren't that obvious. :<
 
I'm 18, been into Pokémon since before it came out, and I get horrible grades. Yet I caught just about all the name puns instantly, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres especially. I guess not putting too much effort into school allows you to appreciate the greater things in life - Poképuns.

Don't feel bad, it took me quite a while to realize this concept as well. The Uno/Dos/Tres suffixes in the Legendary Birds names is really is similar to the game's numbering. (Like the concept concerning Ekans and Arbok.)

I am really interested in the Pokemons' names and designs
and where they were originated or how they were thought up of.

I didn't even realize that untill this post... It's probably because I'm
more familar with the newer Pokemon. Such as Pokemon
from Johto, Sinnoh, etc.. I like those Pokemon the best.

Here are a few names:

Bulbasaur = [Flower] Bulb Dinosaur/Lizard (Not that surprising...)
Sudowoodo = False Wood (petrified wood)
Combusken = Combustible Chicken (Lol.)
Marill = Marine Rill
Volbeat = Volt Beetle/Beat
Whismur = Whisper Murmur
Mudkip = Mudskipper
Gyarados derives from 虐殺 gyakusatsu [highlight]massacre/slaughter[/highlight], and 逆境 gyakkyō, hardship/adversity (I'm scared!)
Farfetch'd = farfetched (Which means "unbelievable")
Muk = Muck (not "kum", if you know what I mean...)
Feraligatr = feral alligator ("Feral" means "wild and menacing")

I also know most of the Pokemons' design origins... but I think that's enough.

Eh, it's not that big of a deal. Pokémon names are pretty interesting though. A lot of them are loaded with latin words/prefixes, as well as parts of words from other languages.
 
I'm pretty sharp to these kinda things.
I found that out...a few years ago.
I like figuring the origin of Pokemon names.
Like...

Arcanine - Arson (Means putting on fire) + Canine (dog/wolf)

Espeon - ESP (ExtraSensoryPerception -sp- Psychic ability) + eon (the ending for eeveelutions, dunno why)

Umbreon - Umbra (the darkest part of the Moon's shadow) + eon

Charizard - Charcoal + Lizard

There are more...
 
I thought Wynuat was created in GSC
 
I did not know that Ashs's mother in Pallette Town can heal your Pokémon in RBY until like last month or something.

Give me a break, i've only been playing the games for 10 years.

I got my jenius moment (I spelled it wrong on purpose this time...)

Arbok backwards is Kobra, cobra with a k
Torterra- Tortise and terra, Latin for earth I'm pretty sure
Quagsire = Quagmire, er... it has something to do with mud... look it up
Shaymin = Shaman, a healer that usually uses herbs


If anyone knows why Dialga/Palkia/Giratina/Arceus are called that tell me
