Well I recently got Diamond and Ive been reading about Sweepers and Healers and that sort of thing (I'm new to all that stuff). And I'm wondering if I should just finish the game first and then worry about that stuff.

Yeh finish the game first. You should really enjoy the game and the storyline before that all comes in.

If you want into competitive battling early, You should start setting a team and begin EV training. However, if want to finish the game and then worry about your team, You could complete the game first. Some items that help with EV training are available after you beat the game too. Personally, I would beat the game first.

Yeah think Ill complete the game first. I might concentrate on my Turtwig along the way though.

Also Ive never really cared too much abut natures, are they worth the extra 10% stat increase and decrease?

10% is actually quite a lot when you think about it, for some pokemon it could mean an extra 30 points or so in a stat that they use and a loss of 30 points or so in a stat that is completely pointless for them.

Natures can give you a good advantage in battle if you pick the right one. For Example, Alakazam never uses its Attack stat. So Modest (+Special Attack, -Attack) and Timid (+Speed, -Attack) are the best natures. You'll see that natures are important for a strong competitive team.

But for now, just worry about completing the game. You can then focus on getting pokes from Pal park using your GBA cartidges(if you have any), EV training, breeding and such. The main reply to teams in game is 'any team works in game'. So just complete the game first.

    Ok then thanks :)

Ill worry about Turtwigs nature as its kinda hard to get another one. And I hate having to search and search for the right nature.

What nature is best for a Turtwig? Is it better to decrease a high stat and add it onto a low one or the other way around?

Get a nature that increases Turtwigs stats thats naturally high. Natures really depend on how you used your pokes. If you only use your pokes in game and not for competative battling, then natures don't matter so much. Natures really depend on how you use your turtwig. Is it offensive or Defensibe? fast or slow? Tank or sweeper? etc.

    https://www.psypokes.com/lab/natures.php

that link gives you a table of all the natures and what they do to their respective stats. Personally my opinion is that Adamant or Brave natures would be best for Turtwige. But thats cos I like my Torterra tank like...

Yes, Shoddy Battle is a great way to test your team before you get serious in-game.

And also, it's near impossible to correctly train your Pokemon with IVs / EVs / Natures early on. You're always going to face a random in-game trainer early on, who uses random Pokemon; that forces you to mess up all your EV points.

Never use Psypokes though. Go to Smogon.

yea finish the game and make a team based on ur favorite pokemon. EV training is tough, annoying and time consuming. vitamins are expensive if u havnt beat the elite four a couple times and u get important berries later on in the game. i dont really have a permanet team and all i just try to get pokemon i lik and the pokemon i lik are usually strong so it works well for me. I aim to make my pokemon strong for pkmn battle rev online and most people u face there dont EV train theyre pkmn so its all good for me. u should also get to the breeding place too especially if u want to get ur pkmn egg moves

    Ok :)

So just guess how Im going to use a Pokemon and choice witch nature will be beneficial?

I always tried to get a nature for Turtwig that would decrease attack seeing as though it would end up so high and then increase speed.

And the only irreversible things are nature and EV's right. If I forget a attack I want later I can get it back. Are there unlimited heart scales in the underground? (I think thas what you use).

Is it feasible to EV train Turtwig as I go through the game seeing as though I want to use him in competitive battlin?.

IV's and Egg Moves too. Once you pick the Pokemon, you want to make sure the IV's are as high in each stat as possible. Once an Egg Move is forgotten, you cannot use the move tutor to reteach the move. And yes, there are unlimited Heart Scales in the Underground.

What if its a wild pokemon your battling? Do you get the same amount of EV's from it then?

It's kind of hard to understand what you mean by "same amount of EV's". No matter what Pokemon you battle, wild or a trainer's, it will give you a certain amount of EV's based on the Pokemon.

    If I misunderstood, I apologize.

Oh, right I understand now ;) For arguments sake you get 1 EV in speed from a Starly, this is regardless of whether it is wild or what level it is and it doesn't matter if your level 70 you still get the EV. Seems a bit easy to EV train on a pokemon that you can KO in one hit.

That's correct. Unless it is holding an EV enhancing item, you will only get 1 EV.
