    The Concept

    Introduction

Welcome to The PokéCommunity League! The PCL is made up of 7-person clan divisions. This league is intended to kindle new bonds within the community and encourage competition. The main goal for any clan is to help their cohorts improve their battling and team building skills. Clans should strive to succeed and get better if they would like to win the PCL Championship and other league events...

    Championships

The PCL Championships is a round-robin OU tournament in which every clan faces off against the other (aka wars). Points are collected from each win a player achieves, and are added to their clan's point total. The midseason of the championships features a seeded elimination tournament with a large point bonus for winning. This gives any clan a chance to make a comeback after a poor start. Once the round-robin bracket has been finished, the clans with the top four point totals enter the playoffs to decide the winning clan.

The winning clan is given the title "chief clan." The chief clan represents the PCL, and they are the primary clan that takes on any outsiders who challenge the league. However, a chief clan will lose their title if another clan beats them in a clan war.

    Battle Server Room

On the PC Battle Server there is a room dedicated just for the PCL. PCL members are given ranks according to their stance in the league. + are regular clan members, % are clan members who have won 10 tournaments in the PC League room (use "/profile" to check your record), @ are chief clan members, and & are clan leaders. Please message an online clan leader if you don't have your appropriate rank.

All league members are encouraged to use this room for tournaments. Submit "/tour help" into the chat for help on creating tournaments. Random Battle tournaments are not allowed in the PC League room. "/teampoll" can be used for gathering votes, though it's advised to simply start up a tournament right then. Most people are viewing the Chat room, so they likely won't see the poll.

    Clan Leaders

Clan leaders are the leaders of their respective clans. They are primarily in charge of setting up events and goals for their clan (e.g. tournaments and ladder races), as well as managing their clan's thread and battle server room. They are the go-to people for making important decisions for their clan.

    Clan Wars

Clans are always welcome to start up wars and challenges with other clans. Clan leaders should post a thread to organize them, similar to this event.

    PokeCommunity League Logistical Information

    Purpose
    • The purpose of PCL is providing a framework for competitive battling within a collaborative framework (teams/"clans") that allows for mentorship and honing battling skills, while also forming and strengthening social bonds.
    • PCL is competitive: winning within the League is prestigious and is one of our great measures of skill. It aspires to be a holy grail of PC competitive battling.
    • PCL caters primarily to established community members and is an initiative that strengthens the existing community rather than attempting to greatly expand it, but everyone who is willing to be active and engaged is welcome.
    General Structure

    I. Clans
    • PCL is made up of 8 clans, groups of 6 people that collaborate and then battle collectively against the other clans in clan wars.
    • Each clan has a clan head who acts as the chief organizer and leader for the clan.
    • It is the clan head's responsibility to act as a resource to their members. Organizing group chats, tutoring, and practice battles fall under this umbrella. They also initiate events with other clans if they wish. Lastly, they are responsible for making sure their members are active and stay on top of scheduling matches.
    • Members' responsibilities include being respectful, active, and engaged in the process and giving their best effort to their clan and to PCL.
    • The full list of clans can be found in the Clan Directory.
    II. Championship
    • The central event for PCL is the League Championship, which is a months-long competition that aims to crown the strongest clan. The details of this competition are covered below.
    • The winner of this competition takes the title of Chief Clan and retains the title until defeated by another clan in the next iteration of the Championship.
    III. Other Events
    • PCL also sponsors other events like CCATs, and individual clans are free to challenge each other to friendly clan wars or other competitions outside of the championship format.
    • Clan heads and members should communicate on what events they want (or do not want) to participate in. Creativity is encouraged with these events.
    IV. Battle Format
    • For the sake of simplicity, all battles are to be OU with the standard Smogon ruleset.
    • If you do not want to play with Smogon rulesets and formats, do not sign up.
    • If both players agree to play a different tier, they are allowed to do so, but it must be mutually agreed upon and it must be an official Smogon tier.
    PCL Championship

    I. Clan War Round-Robin
    • The first phase of the PCL Championship is a round-robin where all of the clans face one another in a series of clan wars.
    • In a clan war, each clan member is matched up with a member of the opposing clan (adjusted for approximately mirroring skill levels) and battles.
    • Whichever clan wins the majority of these individual match-ups will win the clan war for that week.
    • Each round of clan wars will last exactly one week.
    • Every clan will face each other exactly once.
    II. Mid-Season Tournament
    • Approximately halfway through the round-robin, the format will be interrupted by a midseason tournament.
    • Each clan picks two individuals to represent the clan in the tournament. From there, a 16-person individual tournament will begin.
    • Members of the same clan will be on opposite ends of the bracket, so they cannot meet until the tournament final.
    [a id]points[/a id]III. Points System
    • During the round-robin, each win (or activity win) is worth 1 point. Losses are worth 0 points.
    • If it is determined that neither party is deserving of an activity win, both players will get 0 points for their clan.
    • If a clan achieves 3 points during a given clan war (thereby winning half of their available matches), they will be given 1 point extra point. If a clan achieves 4 points during a war (thereby winning the majority of the matches and therefore the war), they will be given 2 extra points.
    • Notably, if a clan garners more wins than the opposing clan but fails to reach 4 points (which is possible if there is enough inactivity), 2 bonus points will not be awarded. If two clans tie but neither reach 3 wins, neither clan will be awarded the extra 1 point for tying.
    • The winner of the mid-season tournament wins 4 points for their clan. The runner-up wins 2 points for their clan, and the other two quarterfinalists win 1 point each.
    • After the round-robin and mid-season tournament end, each clan's points will be tallied, and the top three clans will advance to the PCL Championship Tournament.
    IV. Tournament
    • The 2nd and 3rd place clans face each other in the tournament's opening round. The winner of this first round will advance to face the 1st place (highest point earning) clan in the final round.
    • Each round will function like a clan war. Whichever clan wins the most matches wins.
    • The winner will be crowned Chief Clan until the next year's PCL Championship.
    [a id]activity[/a id]Activity & Scheduling

    I. Forum and Server Presence
    • Maintaining a reasonably high level of activity is an expectation. Temporary blips of inactivity should always be reported in the LoA thread. This is simple courtesy to clan members and to PCL organizers.
    • The expectation for server activity is coming on the Battle Server at least three times per week and communicating with your clan mates.
    • The expectation for forum activity is checking the PCL sub-forum daily or almost daily (no fewer than once every two days) to ensure that you are up-to-date on the latest events, clan war match-ups, etc.
    • Free Agency (see below) exists as a means of keeping clans running smoothly should temporary inactivity become necessary.
    • Clan heads reserve the right to remove clan members that are inactive, as do those in charge of PCL (with the clan head's consent).
    II. Scheduling Matches
    • It is expected that scheduling matches is done within two days of the match-ups being posted. Failure to do so will result in an activity loss.
    • VMs are the preferred mode of contact as they make adjudicating activity decisions easier.
    • There will be NO EXTENSIONS granted barring extreme circumstances.
    • Exams and schoolwork do not count as extreme circumstances. Ask for a free agent (see below) if it is an emergency. If you can't take a ten-minute break from exams to do a battle, you should not sign up in the first place.
    • If you need an extension, notify wolf, Castform, or Anti at least three days before the deadline. Otherwise, it is unlikely that it will be granted.
    [a id]mercenary[/a id]III. Mercenary System
    • Mercenaries are temporary players who fill in for members who cannot fulfill their activity obligation for a temporary amount of time. When the member returns, the mercenary has completed their job.
    • Mercenaries sign up in the normal Sign-Up Thread and are chosen by clan heads who need to fill a spot.
    • Mercenaries are for temporary dips in activity and are therefore have a one-week maximum tenure with a clan.
    • If you want to sign up as a mercenary or want more information, go to the PCL Sign-Up thread.
    Signing Up
    • Sign-ups are always open in case someone is forced to drop out of PCL.
    • Sign-ups must have a minimum of 100 posts on PokeCommunity. This policy is in place to protect against randoms who sign up and then fail to fulfill their activity obligation.
    • Exceptions may be granted to the above rule, but must be approved by wolf, Castform, and Anti. We mainly want evidence that you will not go inactive.
    • You may sign up as a full-time member, a mercenary, or either one (where we choose depending on what the League needs at the time). More information can be found in the PCL Sign-Up thread.
