Surely you all noticed that there have been many pokemon who share far too many similarities with other pokemon (be it same generation or later), for it to be coincidence.

For example there is the more obvious "remakes", like Geodude and Roggenrola.

And the intentional counterparts/duos which usually appear in the same generation, like Wigglytuff/Clefable.

Or much more radical counterparts, that might not even remotely look similar, but share tons of data, are version exclusives, or even just play the same role, like Ampharos/Luxray.

In plenty of the cases it can be a mix of any of the above, and it's not clear enough for this to be easy to categorize.
I've tried to narrow this topic down to specific rules in the past, like
-"has to have the same total stats"
-"needs to evolve the same way/at very similar levels"
but there is always more exceptions than fits, so it turns into a mess and a big part becomes highly subjective about where you put limits.
even the very simple rule of "same number of stages" was messed up when they gave new stages to Dusclops, Mantine, Gloom, Chimeco, Scyther, Magneton etc but not their counterpart...although we could assume they will correct these someday perhaps..

Some examples that might be obvious or not:

Of course these are just some of the themes you can spot and most of the examples fit into several of them.

    Anyways,
The most recent similarity I noticed that surprised me:

They're both slugs, have the Fire vs Water theme, and both gain a "earthly" type upon evolution Rock/Ground.
    lol

I coulnd't find anything in the rules or FAQ, but is there a limit to how many pictures can be in one post?
Cause I could add examples all day XD...

This is more about the Pokemon, not specifically the games, so I'll move this to Pokemon General. :)

Yes, I noticed that too though it's a good thing you specified it there. However, there are also a lot of similar pokemons in the list and those who are still to come.

Wow well spotted with the Shellos / Slugma one!!!!!!!!!! I've been using Shellos a lot recently and never noticed :)
