Umm... I know that you admins don't like ideas like adding new categories, but here is an idea:

We are Pokémon forum for fans from whole world speaking English. But sometimes people welcome some help or advice in their native language. Like, we have many German ROM-hackers here, and generally, there are many people from many countries who might want to talk with people from thier country. So, it may be nice to have the category International Chat and subforums for some languages. But, before it will be done, the thread for people sholud be opened to let them tell where are they from, then post a poll to find out how many are of them and then make corresponding subforums for this category. Moderators for each subforum should speak in the language the subforum is in.

I would like to know what do you think and each comment, cheering or criticsm will be nice. And if the idea won't be approved, we will continue with English :D

Hey, I like the idea but something like that can't really be done on a whim. A lot of time, planning, and energy would be necessary to put something like that together. That's not to say that it's something we've never wanted to do. Personally would love to see a Spanish version of our community. However, Finding people who are capable of organizing, maintaining and most importantly translating Spanish, Polish, Asian, German, African, ect sections/categories are hardest to find. thus, energy and time would be required to go about something like that. Unfortunately time is something we're short on.

I might help you with translating to some central and southeast European languages, with some help of my friends who speak in Slavic languages. But I thought that it will be just enough to make sections like - Chit-Chat, General Pokémon and maybe Art or ROM-hacking. And only the base documents like rules or some announcements. You might find it less "time-eating" and that was my original idea :)

We considered merging with a forum that was primarily Spanish, iirc, but we didn't go through with it because it was too much effort. It's hard enough to maintain a forum in one language, but to keep one together of this side with many languages? It would take a lot of work. :x

You have a point. But a group of moderators with each one talking in the language of subforum and English may be easy to control the subforum and preventing it from spam and other ugly things.

Yeah, but then there'd have to be two sets of moderators and the admins would have the whole language barrier thing, since it would be hard to manage a lot of people with different languages. :\

Oh the language barrier? I thought that if you find reliable people to advise what to do, they will be nice Mods. Like, they can even translate everything to Engliish if they have time and English speaking admins can look into the forum. Or, the rule about dual-language posting in these forums should be set up and people must put in English translation. Or, just English forums discussing things which happened in their country.

There may be problems with, you know, things happening on the [x-language] bit of the board that no one else can understand, that kind of thing.

No one else except dual-lang mods. And they should report thoser things in english to admins to ban users etc. But maybe this is really hard to do. So this category will be hard to maintain.

But maybe this is really hard to do. So this category will be hard to maintain.

The latter. It's just not possible to realize at the moment.

When I think about it a little bit more, you are right. 'Cause to find moderators from different countries and controlling the part of the forum via them is hard because they may misuse their rights and no one will know that - English speaking Admins.

As Erica said, we thought about merging with a Spanish forum and we came to the point where we said it wouldn't work. Even one of our Staff Admins spoke Spanish and I think he also said it wouldn't work.

Yes it's a nice idea, but language speakers tend to stick with forums for their language. I wouldn't go to PokeSafari due to the forum being Spanish because I can't speak it. I'd feel more at home on a forum where the main language is the same as mine. And I'm sure lots feel that way.

Well, you can always hide forums based on usergroup, set a language id based on the language setting in their browser, etc.

I would make an example but I won't.

I think that I will be okay with English, mainly because I am here for more than year and I won't go away just for the reason that I would like to see my language here. Actually, there aren't so many people from Slovakia on this forum, and I think that those forums would be dead because most of hot topics will be in English part of the forum. I have no problem with speaking English, so this was only a suggestion to get more people on the forum :)
