Is it bad that I couldn’t stand the first wave of Gen8’s DLC?

I just loathe Isle of garbage. I can't be assed to remember what the full name actually is because I despise it so. It's easily the one main series content that I hat, let alone think is bad.

In general, I thought it had a disastrous plot, unlikeable characters except for maybe 2 random ones, felt too small even with all the methods of transportation unlocked, I don't recall a single thing I liked from it.

I've heard the statement that SnS is unplayable without DLC, and while I can understand that, it certainly does not apply to myself. I think SnS by itself works just fine. Isle of pain is what I consider the unplayable one.

If anyone here is deciding whether or not to get the SnS DLC, I'd say do it only if you are interested in the second one. The second one… I remember thinking it was okay, although there were some parts that I can't remember at all that frustrated me for reasons I also forgot.

The first wave of Gen8 DLC on the other hand is immensely bad, and if I explained in any further detail on why I detest it so much, I'd be here for a long time.

I remember being so worried the Gen9 DLC would be as bad as Isle of Crapass back in the day.

I'm sorry for ranting, but this DLC is just so painfully underhated. I just found it a loathesome experience despite playing it four times, each time hoping that it got better, but it never did. Just screw this waste of cash and effort.

If Isle of awfulness was free, or free but the second wave is paid, then I won't be complaining. Otherwise, screw this game.

I'm sorry for wasting your time complaining about this complete piece of trash, but it boggles me that there aren't more people complaining about it.

Not at all. I hated it too.

The characters in the dojo or whatever it was had awful personalities. The head master guy, whatever his name was, flipped so many times from "serious martial artist" to "really bad comic relief incompetent old man" mode so much it gave me whiplash.

And don't get me started on the whole, "we're gonna force upon you this random ugly Pokemon that's at level 5 or 10 or something, and you need to raise it up to 75 or whatever and then tackle this challenge tower using ONLY that Pokemon, which, by the way, won't evolve until after you complete the challenge tower, and oh yeah, it's still unattractive even after evolving." Seriously, I don't like it when ANY RPG tries to tell me, "oh, for this section of the game, you have to use this random underpowered character that you've never met up to this point, instead of your main party that you've been focusing on for the entire game up to now, deal with it."

And the whole "find my 100+ Diglett somewhere in the overworld" thing? Why? Just why?

I don't really care for anime/shows with the whole "martial arts dojo training" arcs either, so having to play through a similar scenario in a Pokemon game didn't exactly have me excited.

I waited almost a year to even buy the DLC, and the only reason I bought it was because it unlocked extra outfits (including formal party dresses and shoes) that I wanted for my character. At least the Dynamax Adventures raids in the second part were entertaining to do with friends.

I really hated that you had to buy both as a package deal. Given the choice, I would have only bought the second one (and hoped that it unlocked the outfits I wanted.)

Isle of Armor was very underwhelming for $20--I felt that there needed to be more to the story, more to explore, and more to the martial arts theme than three random tasks that could fit in any story. I would've even liked to see more Kubfu forms than just two.

Thank goodness the Crown Tundra was much better--that had a GOOD story, substantial quests, and memorable characters
