Is it possible to stop this?

Whenever I try to read a thread I become subscribed and then a billion email are sent to my email address. It is very annoying. Is there any way to stop the automatic subscriptions?

(I was exaggerating on the number, obviously)

Indeed there is. Under the User CP, click on the link to Edit Options. Scroll down until you find "Default Thread Subscription Mode". Change the setting to "Do not subscribe", and you should stop being auto-subscribed to threads. ^^ The bad news is that you'll need to turn off your subscriptions to each and every thread individually, sorry. x_x;;

Thanks for helping, I decided I would use the one where it only goes to the User CP
