So in the very first episode of Pokémon Ash sleeps in late and hurries to professor Oaks lab to aquire a Pokémon. After going inside he sees three Pokémon balls. He picks each one of them up only to see they are all empty. He obviously ends up taking Pikachu but this brings up a couple of questions. First, why did Oak waste Ashs time and simply tell him all of the Pokémon were gone? Also it's pretty well known that both in the anime and games once you pick your Pokémon the pokeball is taken also. Ash took Pikachus ball and even tried to put it in its ball. Gary even twirled his ball on his fingers. So did Oak get three empty pokeballs for Ash to find? Oak did seem surprised when Ash first appeared replying to him"Your Pokémon?" Perhaps he is old and put three balls there because he is old and doesn't know what he is doing? Is Oak a jerk?
