Think about this for a minute. Just about all Pokemon are at least intelligent enough to understand human language, and very few are weak enough to be overpowered by humans. If the Pokemon world were realistic, would Pokemon really fight for humans, or would legendaries have long ago taken over the humans and made a Pokemon-ruled world of their own? If the humans there are anything like the humans here, they would want to be the highest on the totem pole in that world, which might cause them to trample on the rights of Pokemon. It would then be realistic for a hyper-intelligent Pokemon (such as Metagross or a legendary) to lead a revolt against the humans, very likely ending in complete victory as either the humans would be completely wiped out or they would surrender and become subservient to the Pokemon.

What stops this from happening in the Pokemon world?

Pokemon are supposed ruled by a being called Arceus. It probably controls what all of other pokemon do, if he is the "God" of the Pokemon World.

I think all of this back to the creator of PokeWorld universe, Arceus. He created the trio Azelf, Uxie, and Mesprit just to represent the mental values of human. It seem Arceus himself hold human up higher than any other of his creation. I also think that some pokemon only evolved under the care of human. As for legendaries, I think they are just doing their roles their given to and not that really interested in human matter. I'm not watching the anime so my view maybe different. For short, I think its Arceus that decided for human rule over pokemon, though not in excessive manner, so to speak.
But I can say the pokemon in both the anime and game are too "soft" or too "kind". Pokemon should be more ferocious to showed that trainers are really needed.

I've actually had this thought about a few different things. It seems to be a common theme in fiction (and in certain places, real life) that those with power are controlled by those without it, which makes little sense. The Salem Witch Trials, for instance, had 'witches' being burned at the stake - but if these 'witches' truly had powers, the townsfolk would never have succeeded. In Charmed and other shows like it, the main characters are forced to hide their identities out of fear of negative reaction - but would it not make more sense that if these people could do things that most could not, that they would be able to be themselves without fear?

More specifically to the Pokemon world, even the weaker ones are creatures that can do things beyond the realm of human. Therefore it is not at all realistic that people would be able to control them. If the Pokemon so wished, they could easily use their powers to wipe out the human race.

Well, my another theory is that pokemon still relyng on their animal instinct. For pokemon like Metagross,l although they have processing power that equal to super computer, if they are without trainer it just like a computer without user. Possibly something like that.

I think that what was said before is right, about Pokémon being treated like irl animals. There are a lot of animals that could wipe us out entirely if they wanted to, I mean, an Elephant could kill a human in no time, the same goes for Tigers, Lions, and so on. There is a certain kind of balance of nature though, that needs to be preserved (though we are not really doing our job then, but anyway), I think it's the same with Pokémon.

Also, though some humans in the Pokémon world might not treat them well, a big part lives in harmony with Pokémon, and I think that Pokémon are okay with that, I think they might want to live next to humans, instead of creating a hierarchy.

All i'm saying is I hope Arceus doesn't actually meet a trainer wanting to capture him.
"Oh you wanna capture me? Okay. Oh wait. BOOM GOES THE WORLD."

Don't forget that people are the notorious killers for people. And also people kill animals the most. In no way can tigers rule the world for a couple reasons, mainly that they are endangered and lack the numbers. This goes for many animal species.

Anyway, this goes hand in hand with the fact that people have technology and overall thinking capacity to be "greater" than Pokemon. Of course, this doesn't exist in our world, lacking Poke Balls and such. Poke Balls are the things that separate humans from Pokemon like here with guns and animals.

I also read a bit of fanfiction mentioning that humans are the strategists while Pokemon are considered weapons, as it takes a lot of control to be able to attack and think at the same time. This kind of creates partnership between the two.

My own personal theory is that the Pokemon simply ignored humanity in its early stages of development(the middle ages, for example), until they became impossible to ignore when we created sufficiently advanced tech to reign them in. They had a chance to wipe humanity out, but they didn't take it, and now the world is in it's current state.

I believe that Arceus probably created both humans and pokemon around the same time long ago. At that time, there were no such thing as pokeballs, battles, etc and humans and pokemon lived together in harmony.

The tiger was just an example of an animal that has the capacity to kill a human easily. I know that we have firearms and technology, but the average human does not exactly have a gun on them, it's limited to a few of us. You need to look at it objectively - 50 lions vs. 50 humans - I think I know who'd win that.

But I do agree with the fact that we have the technology and guns, is one of the things, not the main thing, that separates us from animals. But not the main thing, not at all.
