As A Pokemon fan (Games,Anime, Manga etc..) I cannot really say the Anime is AWFUL. Its great alright when it comes into terms of long nostalgic adventure. However, let's face it, technically, the anime criticized rightfully isn't really that great. When it comes to plot and fillers, you can tell why. Above all that, I see lots of people pissed of by the progression of this anime, I am one of them too BTW. So overall, it's NOT perfect but rather average :\

And here comes the purpose of my topic. When I went to websites for listing "Top Anime", usually by rating, I HAVE GOT TO SEE POKEMON IN THE TOP 20. I couldn't really comprehend that, there are tons of better anime, how can Pokemon really come over them. I don't disagree if it's about popularity but rating....that's not totally right.

So I wanna know from you guys, do you find this Anime overrated, or does it deserve better. Do you think it is Underrated? I personally enjoy it but I can't say its good compared to others....

I think it's reputation makes it pretty underrated. I have actually never seen a place where it was within the top "Must see this!" list, which is absolutely fine... I don't think it belongs there.

But the way it is bashed all the time makes me think that a lot of people haven't seen it because of it's reputation. Which is why I think it is underrated.

Yeah, I'd say it's underrrated. Not because I think the anime is a work of art, but because everyone says it's ****** and kiddie. Hello...it's for kids. Even though I'm 21 and still enjoy it from time to time...XD The storyline is undoubtedly repetitive, always has been, and is quite uninspired most of the time. I'd say it is well below average for storyline, but it is enjoyable and oddly addicting. So I'd say it's "OK".

Yes it's underrated, no it isn't an Amazing anime but it's still enjoyable to watch. It's really bashed mainly by people who don't think the show should have moved from Kanto in the first place. The league at he end of every generation are always fun to watch because they bring back some of Ash's Pokemon from every region.

Underrated? Nah, I wouldn't say so. Well, maybe just a bit. There are many logical complaints about the anime, but likewise, there are many that are just plain unfair. I'm talking about complaints like how the absence of Misty alone destroyed the anime.

However, that's just pertaining to Pokemon fans themselves. I still would say that the anime isn't very underrated among anime viewers as a whole. There really are better things to watch. This anime isn't really something that many older people can jump into and enjoy. Let's face it, the reason many of us have stuck with the series is because we've been watching it since we were kids.

Yeah, that's it, the anime is pretty Enjoyable, I do think part of the reason was my childhood. But I can't get over the fact that I found it in the top 20 in the world, that's one thing that makes it overrated to me. The reason I believe it doesn't deserve THAT MUCH is simply the presence of too many fillers episodes, some plot "issues", and most importantly progression. (I don't mean the fillers are not enjoyable though)
I totally stand against those who claim the anime went downhill because "Misty left" or "New Pokemons/Characters" and so on....just lame if you ask me.

I agree. Almost all the characters are the same, depth-wise anyway. It's all about nostalgia and whatnot, not because the character was actually well portrayed. That's just my opinion though.

I also found the Pokemon anime in some weird spots on top anime lists. However, when I read the reviews about it, they weren't even that great. They always criticized something about art/characters/slow plots/etc., and the only positive thing was the nostalgia and the cute Pokemon to watch. In that case, it's a bit too biased and that's not judging it as an anime.
