Is there a button to put words inside of a "spoiler" thing?

One of my fanfics is really long. I know on some forums there's a "spoiler" button, so you can't see words unless you press it. This would come in handy so my fanfic would not look like a handful and discourage people from reading it. Is there one?

Yes, a spoiler button does indeed exist. When you are making your post in Advanced Reply or even in Quick Reply, there's an icon that looks like this:

you can also use [spoilertitle="title"] to specify a name for your spoiler. so,

[spoilertitle="chapter 1"]text goes here[/spoilertitle]

looks like:

Spoiler: chapter 1

text goes here

you might find that helpful for organising your fanfic if it's particularly long. have fun!
