Isle of Origin​

PREMISE​

We all know the many stories telling the origin of Pokemon. Some say Mew was the ancestor of all. Others say Arceus created them, along with the world. Still others believe that they originated from space!
Young Apprentice Researcher Darwin Charleston has long been fascinated by this subject. Ever since he supposedly saw a Mew as a child, he has been obsessed with this question. After years of research in High School, the young prodigy arrived at a conclusion. According to a legend with no region associated with it, There was an island out in the vast sea where Arceus went to rest. But another legend spoke of an island where Mew would appear. Another one spoke of an island where a large meteor crashed carrying a strange being. The conlusion he reached was that these must be speaking of the same island, and that a vital clue, or maybe even answers, lay there.
At the age of 19, he believes he finally located the island of legend. It is, in fact, a known but little-explored place located in the waters between the southernmost points of Kanto and Sinnoh. It is known as Crimson Island and its only port is in Carvahna Cove,known to be a lawless town of thugs and pirates.
After much persuading, he gained a small budget to put together a team and head out on a research expedition to Crimson Island. The budget is so small, however, that after equipment and supplies, he has very little to pay for a team or a boat.
As a result, he has to limit his team to the essentials and possibly expand it with those willing to work pro bono, like those with a personal interest in the expedition or those he has a history with.
Will he get a team together? Will they reach Crimson Island? What trials await them once they get there? ​

Hi! Welcome to this RP! My aim with this is to create a fun, epic pokemon adventure! There will be thrills, emotion, internal struggle, suspense and pokemon!
Want to create a character for this? Be my guest! There are only a few guidelines:
1. Try to fill a need for the expedition team! Be it cook, boat captain, bookkeeper, fellow researcher, or just a hired mercenary! Be sure to check if that need has already been filled...
2. Make it interesting! Does the character have a reason for wanting to go? Money? Adventure? A history with Darwin? An escape from something? And do they have any secrets? What about they're pokemon (if they have any)?
3. No characters with legendary pokemon. We need those to be special in this RP...
4. No Mary Sues/Gary Stues! Just putting that out there.

Name: Darwin Charleston
Age: 19
Occupation: Apprentice Researcher
From: Castellia City, Unova
Bio: Born in Kanto. At a very young age, Darwin claims to have seen a Mew while he was out exploring on vacation with his parents. After looking up exactly what Mew was, he became fascinated by it, and after hearing his Father tell him about Arceus, he became more interested in the true origin of Pokemon. At school, he excelled in his studies, even being called a prodigy. He was simply very driven, however, by his goals. At age 10, he received a Porygon from his Mother, who worked at Silph Co.. After that, he traveled around Kanto for a while, then Unova. His intellect, however, caught the attention of Professor Juniper, who noticed his passion in when he would look for answers to the origin of pokemon. She allowed him to study at a branch lab in Castelia, where he started living. At age 18, he became an official apprentice. When he presented his theory about Crimson Island to his peers, however, he was laughed at. They said he was wasting his talents on legends, and some even questioned his competence. He didn't give up, and his brain was valued at the lab too much to be fired. So, probably just to shut him up, they gave him a small budget and clearance to research the island.
Personality: Cheerful and optimistic, Darwin finds joy in his research as well as his pokemon. He He often gets excited when he feels he's found something, and seems indifferent to danger around him when research is involved, to a fault, in fact. He keeps his Porygon2 out of its pokeball often so that it can assist him with computer work. He almost never complains, trying to find a silver lining in any situation. He is not built for much physical activity, and gets tired easily on hikes. He also can't fist fight to save his life. He is an exceptional tactician when it comes to battling. When out on an expedition, he will try to maintain teamwork and cooperation, while providing direction along with attempts at being social. While he can't fist fight, he took up fencing as a hobby at age 15.

From: Goldenrod City, Johto
Bio: Born in Snowpoint City, Sinnoh, moved to Goldenrod City at a young age due to her mother's career. Both of Sasha's parents were trainers in their youth, thus Sasha grew up surrounded by Pokémon. The tales of her parent's adventures, and her father's continued participation in tournament battles, made her determined to go off on her own Pokémon journey as soon as she possibly could. She did not care much for her school's other studies (if it couldn't help in a Pokémon quest, it wasn't important). Upon turning ten she asked her parents if she could borrow one of their Pokémon in order to catch her own. Accompanied by her father and his Lairon, she managed to catch a Growlithe. She set off on her journey across Johto, then to her mother's home region of Sinnoh, then to Kanto and Hoenn. While planning where to travel next, she got word of a small expedition that was hoping to uncover the mystery behind a certain legendary Pokémon. Having traveled far and wide and only seen what might have possibly been a flash of Entei, she is rather determined to have an encounter with a legendary Pokémon. Thus, she quickly decided that her next location would be the Crimson Island. When asked what good she would be able to contribute to the team, she was quick to brandish her mega ring. A team of important people on a faraway island, stirring up a Pokémon so powerful it just might have kick started everything they know today, these people are going to need some kind of protection.

Personality: Sasha lies somewhere between being incredibly brave and an incredible danger to herself. That is to say that she craves danger and the unknown, running full speed ahead into situations that could very possibly be hazardous to her health. On the Brightside; she has very good instincts and seems to have a flare for getting herself and others out of these situations…Unfortunately; these instincts and reflexes seem to have overtaken the 'let's think this through' part of her brain. Sasha will ram into an electrified fence over and over, being electrocuted each time, but swearing that one more powerful force will break the fence, rather than ramming it once, realizing this is a dangerous idea, and searching for a way around said fence. Sasha (if you can get past what many consider to be extreme intensity) is a friendly person, and a pretty decent listener.

Years of traveling and a great amount of physical activity have made Sasha a very tone individual. Her love of battles does not stop with Pokémon, as she is also a decent fighter on her own accord. In her years of traveling, she has taken up several different ways to strengthen her own body; including martial arts and some training with a crossbow.

From: Saffron City, Kanto

Bio: Originally from Pallet Town, Basil wanted to travel and do great things in his life. When he was ten, he received a Squirtle and went on his Pokemon journey, looking for his role in life. He ran into a bit of a snag when a Snorlax blocked his path forward. Rather than try to awaken the creature with music, he instead hijacked a food truck and parked it next to Snorlax. This did the trick, but the rightful owner of the truck chased Basil down and demanded he return the keys. Snorlax wasn't ready to give up the truck, and tried to run off with it, overestimating its own strength and destroying the truck. The judge held Basil responsible, and Basil was forced to repay the man by working in a new truck. Though he regretted not finishing his journey, he fell in love with the food world, and traveled to Hoenn to become a chef. Years later, he returned to Kanto to open his own restaurant in Saffron. He was successful, although his primary patrons were members of Team Rocket, using his restaurant to conduct secret meetings. Unfortunately, one of these meetings didn't go well, and to make a long story short, Basil was forced to burn down the restaurant and go on the run. He wound up in Vermilion City, where he found a small boat in need of a cook. He was happy to find work, and found the prospect of a remote island appealing, as he intended to lay low for a while.

Personality: To call Basil a coward would be exaggerating, but he is a somewhat paranoid individual. He believes in safety first, and prefers things to be neat and orderly. He knows what the world is like, full of danger and chaos, and he finds it to be both terrifying and exciting. He enjoys the concept of danger and adventure, and is capable of thinking outside the box to find creative solutions, but much prefers his kitchen, which is organized and relatively safe.

Basil (or Baz, as he had recently started calling himself) is energetic and eager to help out. He's also honest, if a bit sarcastic, telling it like it is and not afraid to speak his mind. Of course, there are plenty of things he is afraid of, and despite his skill with knives, he is reluctant to get into any kind of conflict, be it verbal, physical, or even Pokemon.

From: Olivine City, Johto

Bio: Born and raised in the port city of the Johto region, Liucijia had an extensive knowledge of ships. Her father, a sailor, often took Liucijia on board ships when she was younger, and taught her the many intricacies of running a ship and how to care for one. Her mother, a foreigner from some unknown region, stayed home at the city, and cared for Liucijia while she was home. As Liucijia got older, she became more and more enamored with adventure, and dreamt of sailing out to sea in search of new lands and new discoveries. When her father became the captain of his own ship on Liucijia's 11th birthday, She was given a Magikarp and Feebas as a gift from her father. Liucijia didn't care that she might have been laughed at for taking care of them; she took care of them to the best of their ability, playing with them, feeding them sweets her mother made and just being a good trainer in general. Eventually, when Liucijia was 16, both Magikarp and Feebas evolved into Gyarados and Milotic. Liucijia was ecstatic, and loved both of them deeply as her parents watched her proudly.
On her 18th birthday, Liucijia's father retired, and gave her his ship, allowing her to travel all over the world. With a goodbye, Liucijia and her two Pokemon set sail, traveling through the regions of the world, picking up a couple of new Pokemon along the way, and then onward to unknown areas. Nowadays, she just acts like a passenger ship for those willing to pay the fee. Liucijia looks back fondly on the days of adventure, but also needs money to survive, so her hands are tied. While she was docked in Johto, she caught wind of a researcher in the Unova region needing a ride to an unexplored island. Liucijia, decided to make one last run through the regions for a little extra cash, picking up not only passengers, but crew members and even mercenaries, much to Liucijia's surprise. Finally, they docked in Unova, dropping off the last of the passengers. Liucijia looked and found the researcher, and offered him a ride out to Crimson Island for an extremely discounted price. The researcher happily agreed, and along with Liucijia and her crew, they set sail for Crimson Island, excited at the idea of what they might find.

Personality: As a person (when on land), Liucijia is extraordinarily nice. She respects everyone, and will never treat anyone bad unless she has a good reason to. Is serious about most things, and might not catch when someone is making a joke every now and then. Can swim/hold her breath underwater for a relatively long time. Most people often criticize that she's too young and naive to be the captain of a ship, but that's because they don't know how much experience she actually has with them. Nonetheless, she tries to be friendly before being deadly.
As a captain (when at sea), Liucijia becomes much more stoic, shocking those who don't know her or haven't pissed her off yet. While still respecting her crew and occasional passenger, she gives off an aura of someone who knows what their doing, giving commands with complete authority, and always trying to pick the best plan that leads to no one getting hurt. She always carries a metal pole to use as a cane, but that's for style rather than actually being needed. Has talent with fist fighting, and can use the metal pole like a sword if the need arises.

Bio: Jenna was born and raised in Rustboro. Always a fairly curious girl, she was introduced to pokemon at a young age, their family kept several as pets, including a Skitty and a Flareon. So when her tenth birthday came around, getting a pokemon was quite high on the list. Though her mother had gone through some trouble to make it a memorable experience when Jenna received a root fossil for her birthday. Bringing it back to life and and giving her a new friend and partner in Flora, the Lileep. At first she was quite interested in all things to do with battling, it seemed like the thing to do, everyone did it at one point or another. But she with held on going out and seeing the world. Having been given a fossil on her tenth birthday had gotten her interested in the field of geology, rocks, stones, gems, all fascinating to her. Of course she couldn't deny what she loved, pokemon were a part of her life she couldn't get over and soon had a small team of them. Of course she did little battling for the most part, her pokemon often accompany her when she went looking at the cliffs, or in the caves, she loved caves the most, satisfying her curiosity for the unknown while her pokemon stood by her side. Of course she needed something else to do with her life, and it didn't happen until she heard of the expedition, of course she was good with books, though what really interested her is just the trip in general, not to mention the chance of finding some interesting stones to take home.

Personality: Jenna is curious. Not always, but often enough. She'll often poke and prod and go off on her own to look at things or just explore, though that's by herself. When she's around other people she tends to be more reserved and stays quiet. She's normally very polite with most everyone, but get on her bad side and she'll quickly run out of grace to muster. Though once she gets to know someone she'll find herself being very sarcastic and sassy. Somewhat competitive in nature, more towards just having a goal to accomplish than wanting to win outright. Her curiosity doesn't quite extend to people though, she'll think quiet thoughts about someone before even thinking of talking to them directly. Okay, I think it's time we venture into OOC discussion of how we should begin. Once Tojin submits a character, we can start. Also, how many more people should we let in? Or should we close it here?

Well, that's ultimately up to you and whether you think there should be more people. Let's see... captain, researcher, cook, book keeper/geologist and a mercenary... and whatever Tojin planned on being. Small crew, but we could still hit the seas. Honestly, letting people join after it starts might be more tricky to write than it appears to be for this particular start.
