5th Gen Isshu City Names

If anything, Gen II didn't have a theme. Goldenrod, Mahogany and Violet are colours (although the latter is also a tree). Cherrygrove and Cianwood are compound words and Olivine is a rock. Where's the theme in that?

Gen III had a theme of compound words describing the area. Lily-cove, Petal-burg, Lava-ridge. =|

Outside of Goldenrod (the link between kanto and johto, so it fits with kanto's color theme) all of the cities in Johto as i stated are named for plants/trees that, is an obvious theme 0.o which IMO is better than taking two words and sticking them together

@Darknight i am 99% sure they were plant names before they were color names :/

Even so they were color names when pokemon was invented. My idea is just as plausible as yours is seeing as both of ours have one odd city out.

You have a point but i actually think your "odd" city out proves the plant/tree aspect and not so much the color

Nice thread. I was thinking they'd be named after tech, or maybe basic things... Urm, Candle, Fluorescent, Incandescent etc xD

Mahogany is a type of wood, not a tree. Olivine is a rock, or an extension on Olive (yet another colour). Cherrygrove is two words put together. And, uh, Cianwood and Ecruteak don't exist outside of Pokemon. Admit it, less than half of the Johto cities are actually plants.

And then Gen III theme isn't just "taking two words and sticking them together". Each name means something in relation to the city itself. Slateport is a main port with big streets and stuff. Lavaridge is on a ridge next to a volcano. Sootopolis is a portmanteau of soot (from a volcano) and metropolis, meaning big city, which is what Sootopolis is - a big city in a volcano. If anything, the Gen III names were much better thought out and fit a lot better than the original ones, while sticking to a theme.

Colours are hidden everywhere :3

I'd like themed Towns yes please! :D

Yeah its a Color + Something to do with Nature... Thats a theme... BTW anything that repeats can be considered a theme...

or we can separate olivine and get olive vine, Ecru and teak which are a color and and a tree respectively, Cian Quoted from wikipidia "In Persian, Kian means "King" or "Realm". It may mean "soul" or "essence", the definitive and essence of what is a Flower, both in poetry, connotative and concrete meanings. In other words "Kian" is Life, is Beautiful." and wood. And where do you think you get the mahagony wood? It is from a tree. Cherrygrove could take it's name from various towns that are called Cherry Grove, and guess why they are called that...they grow cherries which came from trees, starting to see a pattern maybe?????

Oooh, but do you see what I see?

Cian + wood, Ecru + teak, Olive + vine. WORDS PUT TOGETHER!

But thats not the theme of it -.- you tried to argue that there was no theme to Gen II and were obviously proven wrong... and i stated as my opinion that putting two words together is not a theme.

It is a theme its just not a good one... Gen II has the theme of putting a color and a nature-base object together... mostly wood...

It's not one theme. Azalea, Blackthorn, sure, directly are plants. Cherrygrove, OliVINE, EcruTEAK, are sort of colour-plant double words. :|

Olives come from plants, teak is a wood, Cherries grow on trees how can you not see this pattern. Outside of goldenrod every town name has to do with a plant/tree i.e. a theme.
A definition of the word theme is a unifying or dominant idea, motif, etc., as in a work of art. And if every town has something to do with a plant/tree it is pretty obvious it is a dominant idea.

Um, Goldenrod IS a type of plant. It is a small yellow flower that grows in clumps.

Really 0.o did not know that so it truly is the bridge between colors and flowers
but back on topic if by some chance Isshu is based on Nyc they could make the name to have something with real areas (bad example) they could have a place called Crown City and it could represent Queens or something

i hope their named after different areas of NYC, to seal the deal ;)

Brooklyn, exc. ;)

Harlem City, Isshu! Only available in Pokemon Black. :P

I hope they don't name a town Brooklyn, that's no fun.

Johto and Kanto had pretty set themes... Sinnoh seemed to be on location and random. Hoenn, too. I'm thinking they'll just go for whatever, but Johto was creative with its theme.

If what People say are true about the games being Nature Vs. Industry they Might have Nature and Industry Related Names ?
Keompyuga Town/City, named after the Korean word for computer 컴퓨터 :D just added ga onto the end.
Sahil area....desert

All I can think of right now.. Keompyuga may sound a little weird/dumb but I like it.

Sahil Area outside of Hiun City. They, Keompyuga and Sahil, contrast with each other, Sahil comes from the Arabic word for desert, Sahra'a صحراء . It's like a natural world (desert) and modern-day world (computer).

I think of the weirdest things .
