Question: It might be nitpicking, but why can't we revive old threads?

Well, whenever I've been on forums, I've always been taught "Search before you post", and I do that. So sometimes, I post in old threads instead of filling up the forum with a new one that already exists, but I don't think about it.
I just wondered why we can't revive old threads, it's curiosity I guess but I know I'm gonna do it one day XD

Well it depends on the thread itself, I've allowed revivals of certain active threads if there's enough of an opportunity for discussion and so have other mods, while others may consider that the "discussion" aspect is over and it's best to start a new thread. But the main reason is that after a month a thread/discussion is usually considered dead and there's not much worth posting in it or posting in older threads with nothing to add instead of just making a new one and restarting the discussion with a newer/more interesting point of view. Apparently it was never fully explained why revivals weren't allowed, but rather an excepted rule (or at least according to someone a day or so ago) and it's something we've stuck with.

In Black and White, for example, the revival rule doesn't apply to Weekly Polls because we want activity there, but if they were made before the games were released, and based on speculation, then there'd be no point discussing them because you already know what happened, etc.

I answered that completely around the wrong way but I hope that makes sense.

It's mostly because you're replying to people that might not be on the forum anymore and often they have outdated information. For example, there was a theory thread in the Anime section that talked about what it would be like if Meowth traveled with Ash and co. In the newest anime series, Meowth does just that. Someone revived the thread, taking each theory and telling them they're wrong as if they were posting after the arc came out.

There are some place where the one-month rule doesn't apply, such as owners of a gallery in the creative sections and polls in Black/White. But in general threads that are really old end up with people replying to people that aren't there and such.

Oh, thanks ^^ Yea I'll make sure I don't talk in threads I know are out of date. I just wanted to make sure I won't get banned, or worse, kidnapped for it & I kinda wondered.
