Was gone for a while, but managed to come up with this thing. I rate it 13+ for safety reasons.
Summery:
It's been two months since Gloria became the new champion of Galar. It's been two months since Victor opened his new bar in Wyndon. It seems as if the storms have calmed after the Eternatus incident. And yet... their inner storms keep getting stronger.
Told from the perspectives of the boys of Galar.
Gloria's team is based on my own Sword run.
"Inteleon, Ice Beam!"
"Appletun, Apple Acid!"
The blue lizard Pokemon pointed its finger at the dragon with a smirk. This one he will dedicate to his trainer. A frozen beam shot out of the finger's tip, through the dragon Pokemon's wave of green acid, straight into its mouth. The liquid split by the Inteleon's feet, but he didn't pay attention to it. He was busy studying Appletun. It was exhausted. Making him lose his Gigantamax form took its toll on the slow Pokemon, as he dropped his head and fainted.
"Inteleon's Ice Beam took down Milo's Appletun! The winner is Gloria!" Yelled the announcer, and the lizard turned around to smirk at its trainer.
~~~~
"Amazing battle back there." Milo said as he approached Gloria, who sat on the bench in the changing room, making sure her Pokemon were ready for the next round.
"Thanks." She said and smiled at him. "You were quite good back there as well."
It's been 2 months since the Champion's Cup. Two months since Gloria became a champion. Even though Leon has been guiding her and helping her adjust to her new role, she still felt lost and confused. Everything happened so fast. Chairman Rose. Eternatus. Zacian and Zamazenta. Those monthly battles were the only thing that helped keep her head clear.
"Say… are you taking Poke Jobs?" Milo asked and sat by her side.
"Didn't in a while. Why? Have anything interesting to offer?" Gloria asked as she cleaned her glasses with a piece of cloth.
"Gloria, one minute." Said a familiar feminine voice.
Ever since the "Rose Incident", Oleana took as much responsibility on herself as she could. Probably to keep the fact that Rose will be away for quite a while out of her thoughts. One of the responsibilities she took was helping Gloria around. While the two women were quite different, they had a lot in common. It made it easier for them to bond as friends.
"You know, Milo, give Oleana the information. I will help you as soon as I am available." The young woman said as she stood up and started to walk towards the arena.
Milo sighed with a smile as his eyes followed her. He never told her, but he liked her. He didn't know how to tell her, but he hoped it would just come up. Maybe she felt the same way and initiate the conversation on her own? He felt like she would be that kind of person who would tell people how she feels.
"So, Milo, when and where would you like to meet Gloria?"
~~~
Milo got out of his hotel and walked the cold evening streets of Wyndon, heading out towards the "Masterball Bar & Café". It was a new business in the city of Wyndon, but it quickly became a hangout place for the Gym Leaders and the new Champion of Galar. Maybe it was such a comfortable place for the trainers because it was owned by a former challenger, Victor, Gloria's twin, and his Rillaboom. Milo entered the bar, hanged his brown leather jacket on the coat hanger, and approached the owner.
"Milo! It's been a while. Seen your battle today on the telly. Must say… Gloria did you dirty." He said as he passed the Gym Leader a dark colored beer.
"No… She was just the better trainer." He said with a smile as he took a gulp of his drink.
"Come on, Milo! Let me have a jab at her! Please!" The younger man pouted.
A female Indeedee came out of the kitchen and rested a plate with a warm piece of pie on it in front of the trainer.
"New recipe. Meat pie. From Ta…"
"I don't think I want to hear." Milo stopped him as he took a bite from the food. "Tastes good. Thought you only had a male Indeedee. Caught one for the place?"
"Not really. She used to be with Gloria. Guess she really wanted to be with mine, so Gloria let her stay here. Talking about love, when are you gonna talk to my sister?"
Milo took another gulp of his beer and looked down at it with a smile. "Is it really that obvious?"
"No. Just a few have noticed. Nessa, Sonia, everyone but my sister…"
Milo sighed and looked up at Victor. "Do you think she feels the same way about me?"
"Listen, Milo, my friend, I have talked to my sister. A lot, in fact. She doesn't talk about relationships. She talks about how much stressed and confused and how much she hated our father. I have no idea what she thinks about any of us."
"Maybe she should seek help or something? It sounds like she is in a really bad place." Milo said with worry in his voice.
"Look, Milo, I am not a psychologist, I am a bartender. You pay me for alcohol, and you tell me about your shitty day. It's a symbiotic relationship."
"I…"
"And don't you dare telling me that you think you will stop coming here. Where exactly will you go? The Ultraball?"
Milo and Victor exchanged looks. Milo would rather listen to Victor mock his love life than going back to the Ultraball. Milo sighed again and finished his drink.
"Talking about Gloria, where is she?"
Gloria would always come here when she was in Wyndon. As far as Milo knew, she wasn't in the best terms with her brother, but they were still brothers and they cared for each other. At least, that was what Milo thought.
"Oh, she is sitting in the back." Victor said and pointed to the back of the bar with his thumb.
Milo thanked him and walked towards where Gloria was, only to see her sitting with someone else. It was hard to tell because of the darkness of the room, but he was sure it was Raihan. Milo saw Raihan approaching Gloria's ear and whispering something that earned him a raised eyebrow and a questioning smirk from her. They stood up and walked towards the exit, not noticing Milo's existence.
"We left the money on the table." Gloria announced to her brother as Raihan helped her wear her black jacket.
As the two trainers left the building, Milo felt his heart sink. "Do…" He sat back in his chair. "Do you think they…"
"Please don't make me imagine my sister in those kinds of situations." Victor said as he glared at the grass gym leader. "Anyways, they probably went to battle or something. Raihan hates her guts. You think he was salty when Leon defeated him? You haven't heard how salty he can get when Gloria defeats him, both in private and public matches."
Milo smiled. "You know… it kind of makes me feel better hearing you say that."
~~~
Milo stood in the middle of the field, leaning on his hoe and wiping the sweat off his forehead. Today was the day Oleana would bring some of Gloria's Pokémon to help around the field. He already started to work on his own, thinking what he would say when he meets her again. He decided to tell her the truth. How he felt about her. How much he wanted her to be by his side, and how much he wanted himself to be there for her. He wasn't sure of it, but he knew she would have the same feelings. They had good chemistry, after all. At least, this is what he felt.
The sound of flapping metal wings snapped him out of his thoughts. A Corviknight Taxi. The bird landed in front of him, and Milo approached it, ready to greet Oleana. But as if the gods decided to laugh at him, it was Gloria who came out of the cab.
"G-Gloria! What are you doing here?" Milo stuttered as he stopped in his tracks. His legs felt as if they grew roots and even though he was physically strong from the field work, he couldn't move them.
"Oleana told me that I need to get out more for things that are not training. Something about my mental health and social circles or something." She said as she looked up at the leaving taxi.
Did Oleana know? Was Victor right, or was he tormenting Milo for his own cruel amusement? Milo cleared his throat and took a deep breath. He will tell her today. He promised himself he would tell her as soon as he saw her. He couldn't lie to himself. But not now. His duty as a farmer comes first.
"You can leave your Pokemon with me and go to rest in the shade."
"I will pass. If I am already here, let me help." Gloria said as she took off her black hoodie and hanged it on the fence.
Milo gulped and nodded.
~~~
They sat in the open field, drinking water and resting after a long day of work. Gloria laid down on the grass and closed her eyes. She knew fieldwork was hard, but never really paid any thought to it.
"You know, working in the field with you… It made me appreciate you much more as a Gym Leader. Juggling battling and farming must be difficult." Gloria said and reached for the cold water.
"And working with you made me appreciate you as a champion. More than I already did." He chuckled and laid by her side.
He looked at her looking at the sky. He could feel his heart flutter. Now was the time. But he had to make something clear.
"I saw Raihan and you the other day at the Masterball."
Gloria turned to him, as if he said something considered a taboo.
"I saw you leaving together… wondered if you had something going on between the two of you… if you don't mind me asking." Milo asked and tried to avoid her eyes. He started to regret his question as soon as he brought up Raihan. He had nothing to do with it. What was he doing?
"No… we have nothing going on." True. "We were just taking a walk to the hotel together." Also true. "And we talked. Battle strategies." A lie. "And that's about it." Terrible lie. "What is it to you, anyway?"
Milo flinched. He didn't detect the lies. Or maybe he didn't want to and decided to believe the lies for his own sake. He sat up and sighed. Gloria sat as well, studying his freckled face.
"Gloria… I…"
